Jan 11, 2019 - Camping America

Day 3. Friday 11th Jan. Jet lag! Only managed about three hours or so sleep during the night. Our bodies are still on UK time. Eventually gave up, got dressed & headed for the nearby McDonalds for breakfast at 6.30am. Several odd characters hanging about at that time of the morning but we kept our heads down. After we returned to the motel we contacted the Motorhome hire company & they said we could collect our vehicle as soon as we liked, although we had been told previously that we had to wait until the afternoon. It was about fifteen...

Jan 10, 2019 - Long Day Travelling

Day 2. Thursday 10th Jan. Our flight was not due to leave until 3.20pm so we had time to take a bus to Hounslow & have breakfast at the Wetherspoon’s there. We checked out of the hotel at noon & made our way to the airport where we dropped our cases & then hung around till our flight. The plane took off on time & we settled back for the ten & a half hour flight. All very uneventful with loads of films to watch on the seatback screen. We eventually landed at 6.20pm local time, 2.20am UK time due to the 8hrs difference. Then it was two & a...

Dec 9, 2018 - Sea Day and Formal Night

Sea Day 78 degrees and sunny We had another time change of moving clocks ahead an hour as we headed toward Puerto Vallarta. That makes two one hour changes ahead two days in a row. It sorta messed with us a little as I woke at 9:30am new time. I had a great sleep again while Ann not so much due to others banging and slamming cabin doors to the wee hours. Today was a Sanctuary day for us on the ship. For an extra charge, The Sanctuary is a very quiet area of the ship where there is no music playing, the lounge chairs are padded and there is...

Our 5 week adventure

Dec 8, 2018 - Sea Day

Sea Day High 70’s clear and sunny We had a great night sleep last night. Partly from the early morning and long day of travel and part due to these fabulous Princess Cruise beds and pillows. This may be the most comfortable bed we’ve slept on and would consider ordering one...Yup, you can do that. We moved the clocks ahead an hour last night and I woke around 8:15 new time and Ann around 9:15. I went to the International Cafe and picked up two Lattes and danish and enjoyed that on our nice sized balcony. Ann and I did a little walk down...

Dec 7, 2018 - Cruise Day!

Cruise day! Mid 70’s sunny We had a LYFT ride scheduled at 6:30am. Lisa walked with us to the spot we were to be picked up and said our goodbyes when our ride arrived. Hard to say goodbye. The ride to the airport was about 25 minutes. Our driver was great and we really liked using LYFT for its convenience and punctuality. Everything from the LYFT ride to the United flight to LA to our Princess Shuttle ride to the cruise port went on without a glitch. We boarded the Coral Princess about 11:15 and we were able to enter our cabin right away....

May 16, 2018 - Departure for Glacier National Park

Our favorite transport, Letitia, picked up Judi B then swung by and picked up myself, Vicki and Anita for our adventure of riding the Amtrak train to Glacier National Park for a week of exploring another National Park. A few years back, the four of us visited Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Since then Anita moved from California to Arizona so this is the first time in a couple of years that the four of us have travelled together. Somewhat typical LA traffic took us one and one-half hours to reach Union Station in downtown LA - a 27 mile...

Apr 11, 2018 - Heading to the Continent

Hello Family and Friends- I am off on another adventure in a few days. Stay tuned for updates about whether I successfully navigate London without being hit by a bus because of not looking the right way before crossing the street, and if the rail strike in France complicates my travel any further than it already has. XO, Betty

Mar 23, 2018 - a four dinner day

The trip to O'Hare went smoothly in our ugly little orange rental car. Since we are flying business class on this leg of the trip we came early so we could enjoy the lounge and early dinner #1. The scallops were to die for and the cookies were like none we've ever had. We watched the cloud bank containing the forecast snow storm approach, but took off in sunshine. After about an hour of flying we were served dinner #2. There's something about being served hot nuts that gives me an irrational thrill. If I want hot nuts, I can microwave them...

Jan 5, 2018 - Bon Voyage

The Voyage begins! We dropped Martha off at her Aunt’s house and had a lunch of Mexican with some friends before heading to the ship. The ship holds 928 passengers. 655 got on in Miami and 300 here in LA. The owner of the Viking cruise line is on board and gave a pool party with champagne, canapés and Fireworks. Quite a send off and way to start the cruise. Our room is very nice. Unpacking was intimidating. We brought way too many clothes! I am sure we will move every around in the drawers as we settle in. We have 8 days at sea to relax...

Jan 4, 2018 - Los Angeles

Very strange country this California, sanctuary state, believe Cuba could give it a political run. Has been 29 years since we have been here, very little has changed . Enjoyed seeing Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese theatre. Next we are at sea for 7 days and then get to explore the French Polynesia Islands.

Jan 2, 2018 - Day 5 Getty Museum

We got up this morning and met dad and mom downstairs in the hotel restaurant for breakfast. There wasn't anything planned and Bob and I wanted to see the Getty Museum. Mom was content to stay and read a book, but dad was interested in going along with us. We used an Uber for the first time and it was great ride and much cheaper than a taxi. I did not realize how massively big the Getty Museum was!! Incredible!! The stone used to build the museum was from a quarry in Rome and shipped over here. You could even see some fossils in them. I...
