Jan 12, 2018 - Long Beach

Fun day today. We had a nice hot continental breakfast. This morning it was beautiful out. The temp was in the high 60 range, but felt a lot warmer. It's so good to be able to wear shorts and tee shirts, and sandals. We walked down to the beach, along the beach and back covering 9.2 miles. We stopped at the outlet mall (Columbia) where I got a good deal on some clothes, and our lunch on the way back was Baskin Robbins ice cream, my kind of lunch. We also stopped at Walgreens as somehow, we left our calcium at home. Then we stopped at the...

Jan 11, 2018 - BTV to Long Beach, CA

Finally, we're on our way for our Panama Canal cruise. We left Burlington a little earlier than our scheduled 2:41 flight and had a couple hour layover at JFK. The flight was long, but very little turbulence. We arrived in Long Beach around 9 Pacific time, which is midnight for us (EST). We're at the Best Western on Long Beach Blvd. The hotel is nice.

Jan 8, 2018 - Day 3 Spa Day

1,153 miles from LA at Noon today traveling 16.5 knots (22 miles) an hour. 1,624 miles to go. Moved clock back 1 hr Spa Day! Mel and I both scheduled facials for today. Mel got the Nordic and I got the hydro microbrasion. Both came with neck and scalp massage. Mel thoroughly enjoyed hers. I liked mine a lot too. Agnes was my therapist. She is from Poland and has been on the ship since its launch in Sept. I am half polish on my mother side. We had great fun talking about our favorite foods. One thing totally blew me away. We both like to put...

Jan 7, 2018 - Day 2 - Settling in

About 700 miles from LA at Noon today traveling 16 knots (20 miles) an hour. 2100 miles to go. Sitting on the Sports deck in the sun this morning, we realized that we really were out of reach of emergency support if something happens. On some of the other cruises we have taken, people have had to be evacuated due to medical issues. Don’t know if a helicopter can reach us and get back. Nearest land is 400 miles away. Then the moment passed and we sat back to enjoy the beauty around us. Mel and I are guessing we are on the younger side of...

Dec 24, 2017 - Sail-away

We coordinated and car-pooled and made it to Port of Long Beach. Parked our vehicles in the garage at the Port. Boarded the Carnival Imagination. Most of our cabins are near each others; decks 6 & 7. Ate lunch at the buffet; and found everyone. We also found the free champagne - yay! Long Beach harbor looks a lot nicer from the ship (than from the streets and freeways - ha ha!) The cruise director has an Aussie accent and calls everyone "Matey". The kids really love the way he signs off all of his announcements. "Cheeeeee-ri-oh!"

Sep 13, 2016 - Day 8

We had been hoping to go to the beach today after our plans got de-railed yesterday. On our way there, we had a few drizzles of rain, so I whipped a u-turn, and we spent the day at the aquarium instead! P had the most fun looking for all the machines that let her emboss her program guide with pictures of animals on different pages. K seemed to really enjoy actually looking at all the unique fish. R slept, and got a picture next to baby fish that were born a day after her. After a day at the aquarium, we headed home for a quick nap for K,...

Landheer Trip 2016!

Apr 18, 2014 - Aquarium trip

We picked up Anya yesterday and today we are going to the Pacific Ocean Aquarium in Los Angeles. We were there bright and early so there should be a minimum crowding, we found that LA is a busy town and people are everywhere and traffic on the roads can get heavy too. We had a great time watching penguins, otters and seals. We saw divers feeding the fish and the stingrays in the big tank and pet the baby stingrays and sharks in the shallow pool but Anya would not touch anything in the water. She seemed to have a great time and that what we...

Oct 27, 2013 - Day before Day 1

Went to pick up the Penske truck today at Home Depot. The two wheel cart was missing. Makes it tough to load the truck without the cart. They suggested that we drive to Carson to pick it up. Yeah right! No way!! I told them they were gonna deliver it to my house. So I drive home in the truck to wait for them to deliver the cart. On the way home I realize that this truck didnt have cruise control. With 2800miles of driving ahead of us guess what I did? Yep. About two hours later they delivered a different truck with cruise and. Two wheel...

Oct 27, 2013 - Long Beach to Seguin, TX

Ursula made us promise to wake her up when we leave so... We woke at 5 am and were loaded and ready to go at 5:30. After a lengthy goodbye with Ursula, we were on the road by 6 am. Nasty traffic and heavy for in the San Bdo mtns. Once we cleared the mountains we had a good trip to Arizona. We had planned to stay in Casa Grande AZ but drove on a little further to Tucson and stayed the night with our friend, Rod Trotter. Grilled some steaks and a few cocktails. Next morning, saturday, 10/26, had a short visit with another good friend, Brad...

Oct 27, 2013 - Reflections from the passenger

We crossed into Texas at the end of a road weary day. We've been traveling hard and fast from California and are planning to stop late tonight in The 2 cow town of Van Horn. The sights, sounds and smells of El Paso welcomed us. Crowded, dirty, disorganized, car horns and car alarms. music blaring from car stereos in Spanish. Wavy uneven roads and poorly placed street signs. Two signs stood out. Welcome to Texas, the Lonestar State and a second sign that let us know that 2753 lives have been lost on Texas freeways this year. Quite a...
