Apr 28, 2016 - A Sad Visit

This morning, we moved back down into the Central Valley of California to Auntie Squeak and Uncle Steve's home. We have always enjoyed visiting these two in their lovely home in Lincoln. This year, however, is a bit sad because Uncle Steve now resides in a memory care facility. -- Auntie Squeak took us over to visit with Steve but unfortunately, he was having one of his bad days and did not recognize us, nor did he recognize his son, Dave. I can't help but wonder and marvel at the workings of the mind. How can someone who was so full of...

Apr 13, 2015 - Visiting Some of Our Favs

Thursday, RVers started coming into the park in droves. By Friday night, the park was once again nearly full. It is obviously a favorite camping spot for nearby RVers. We spent the last few days at home, enjoying the gorgeous spring weather and the spring like scenery. After the recent rain, the grass and trees are brilliant shades of green. -- We had a bunch of RVers who were camping together alongside us for the weekend. I think there were five or six rigs together. At first, we were apprehensive. Would they be up all night, playing loud...

Mar 29, 2014 - Visiting Family

We had 14 people for dinner on Friday night at Dos Reis Park. My older brother, his wife, my sis and her fiance, and many of my brother's kids and grandkids were there. We had a blast visiting and eating. We had shrimp on the Bar-be with burgers, salads, chips, veggies and dips . . . oh, and coookies and chocolate (thank you Brian!). But the excellent food was second to the excellent company. It was terrific to be able to see everyone. My face hurt from grinning all day. -- This morning, we moved north to Lincoln to visit John's Auntie...

Sep 16, 2012 - Good Friends, Good Food, Fond Memories

A leisurely morning with breakfast, catching up on news and baking a blackberry pie was a fitting beginning to a Sunday. No church service this week again since we do not know of any churches in our area so I hope someone will say a prayer for us. We need all the help we can get! LOL About noon we loaded the truck with Sugar’s kennel for a trip to Lincoln, CA. It is about an hours drive. Without the fifth wheel following me we can drive a little over the legal speed limit of 70 mph. Highway 5 is dotted with orchards and fruit stands but...

Dec 10, 2009 - A Quick Trip to Sacramento

We endured two nights of low temps in the 20's. We are just not set up for frigid temps and miss the balmy nights on the Gulf of Mexico. We left the heater running all night and opened cupboards and John disconnected the water hoses outside, so we were able to make it without having any frozen pipes. The good thing is that we had sunshine first thing in the morning shining in the front windows, which helped to warm up our little home on wheels. -- Yesterday, we traveled to Lincoln Hills, a suburb of Sacramento, to visit with Auntie Squeak...

Jun 29, 2008 - Prep work, the final week

Here we are in the final week of preparation for our road trip to "who knows where". Peg is deligently putting in itinerary listings with Good Sam to check diesel costs, camp sites, road choices, fishing holes, and most importantly dump sites. I'm packing the rig with games, books, and food (I think I'm the cook since she is driving!). We have a few get togethers this week with friends in the Georgetown area to say goodbye and will leave for Reno on July 5th. We'll finish Mom's fence, see a few friends and family before heading out to...

Apr 26, 2008 - Rio Linda, CA

Auburn AVA Walk26 April - I arrived at the Auburn Dam Overland Park in Auburn about 7:30 for an AVA 11k walk and found a great parking place for the day. I had planned to start the walk early and finish by 11 so I could work the start table from 11-noon however, due to excessive bloviating, Joanna and I didn’t get started until after 9 so we had to walk fast, we even jogged some. We took a couple of wrong turns but recovered nicely and made it back by 10:50. The running almost killed poor Jo…………….anna and she may never walk with me (or...

Apr 25, 2008 - Rocklin, CA

Camping World25 April - The final installation was completed by noon today however, during the test run the new unit kept blowing 15 amp fuses. My mechanic discovered that the unit would occasionally surge up to 31 amps at startup. A replacement unit was ordered via overnight delivery and is due in by noon on Monday. I decided to leave my toad here until I return next week. I didn't depart Redding until late afternoon and had to cancel my planned day in Discovery Park with Joanna. I pulled into the Rocklin Camping World around 10pm for the...

Jan 1, 2008 - Yuba City, CA

Happy New Year!1 January - This is the first day of the new year and the last day of my perimeter run. We woke to a beautiful, crisp, clean, and cold morning in the high desert country of the Mojave. For two days the girls have been hounding me to see a Joshua Tree. This morning we woke up with them surrounding us(5). We took some pictures and then headed for the little town of Mojave for gas and breakfast at Denny's, IN OUR JAMMIES! We decided we were not gonna change or even clean up until we got to Yuba City. After breakfast we drove...

Nov 6, 2007 - A Quiet Time at Lake Minden

Where do we go after two exciting days in Chico, California? To a nice, quiet Thousand Trails park 84 miles away, to catch our breath. Here we are at Lake Minden, just outside of Nicolaus, CA. We're here to relax a little, do some laundry, clean house, etc. Why clean house? Because at our next stop, we expect daughter Deb to visit, and we think cousin Carol will also. We even got a message on this website from a reader we've not met yet, wondering if we could get together as we pass through the Bay Area! We gave her a map and directions to...

Oct 13, 2007 - At Maginn's in Roseville, CA - Sat & Sun, Oct 13 & 14

Arrived in Roseville at the Maginn's. "Gertie took me right to their house. The Maginn's thought I took the long way to get there and maybe "Gertie" did take me a different way, but it was a beautiful drive through the orchards and not on an Interstate. Loved it!! Russ and Debra cooked a delicious salmon dinner just as promised. SOOOOOO good. Debra and I did some laundry and got ready to leave on Monday for Carlsbad.

Jul 27, 2007 - Yuba City, CA

Arrived in Yuba City27 July - I finally made it. I got the call that my glasses were ready for pickup from the Travis BX about 12:30 and was on my way shortly after that. I stopped at Walmart in Woodland for a short rest (read: nap) and then continued on my Mary-way (as in on my way to see my Mary). It is a very warm evening here. There's only a 15 amp hookup in the garage so I can't run the aircon. Tomorrow I will invest in another fan, providing I survive the night. Today's Milestones: Drove a trip record of 75 miles in one day. 28 July...
