Mar 24, 2013 - Hanging Out in La Quinta

More fun in the sun here in La Quinta for the past week! Golf, swimming, running, cycling and lots of great food and drink! We ran into friends Deb and Rod at the farmer's market and set up a game of golf with them a few days later. Lots of fun, Dale and Rod even wore the same uniform! Pam's sister Laurie, along with Tommy and the girls, are arriving tomorrow so we have to vacate the condo. Our plan is a leisurely drive through California, Oregon and into BC before heading home. First stop, Solvang.

Mar 15, 2013 - Back in the Desert

After chipping the solid blocks of ice off of our mud flaps, we headed out of Canmore on a cool, cloudy day enroute to the sunshine in La Quinta, California. We stopped overnight in Butte, Montana and then again in Beaver, Utah and while it wasn't exactly a white knuckle drive, there were a few uncomfortable moments with pure ice in S. Montana and then torrential rain in Nevada. But once we turned off of the insane I-5 and took the quiet back roads through the Mojave National Reserve (watch for tortoises!), it was an enjoyable drive. We...

Dec 4, 2012 - Last days in the desert (for now)

Our last few days in the desert have been filled with more of the same (fine food and drink, golf, swimming, biking and running). Life is rough.... We tried a new restaurant in La Quinta called the Sandbar. A really cute place, typical old style Palm Springs with valet parking, a crooner at a grand piano and a few movie stars in the restaurant (who we hadn't heard of but we took the waitresses word for it). We also went for the dinner and show at "Frank's Place". Frank Disalvo is a Sinatra impersonator who does a great job singing Sinatra...

Nov 23, 2012 - Pam's best golf game

We played golf at another beautiful course today, Eagle Falls. Pam was so inspired by the beauty of the course that she shot her best score ever and managed to break 100 with a score of 99. Not bad for a rooky! Carey leaves to return to the cold tomorrow. We might have to start thinking about when we're going to head home too and which route we'll take. Maybe next week (we'll start thinking about it).

Nov 22, 2012 - Road Riding and Thanksgiving Dinner

We lucked out in the turkey department this year. We spent Canadian Thanksgiving in Vernon with Dale's folks and enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. And now we're in the US so we got to do it all over again for US Thanksgiving. While Cam and Carey golfed, we chose to make room in our tanks for lots of turkey by going on a long road ride. The road riding from our door at the condo is fabulous! Quiet roads with dedicated bike lanes, no traffic lights and some great scenery. Thanksgiving dinner was at Christina's place. Brian and Susan...

Nov 21, 2012 - A visit with Carey

Our friend Carey flew down from Calgary to join us for a few days of golf. One of our games with him was at Silver Rock, one of the most beautiful golf courses we've ever played. Also one of the more expensive ones so we had to play early to get a good rate which meant it was a wee bit chilly. Making up for the frozen fingers was the beautiful early morning light on the golf course.

Nov 17, 2012 - La Quinta Brews and Blues

The La Quinta Blues and Brews is an annual festival held outdoors on the grounds of the civic centre and as the name implies, features live blues music and beer tasting. Dale had to sit this one out as he had a condo board conference call and Laurie, not a beer drinker, chose to go shopping instead. The rest of us spent a great afternoon in the sunshine listening to blues and sipping on brews. A great way to spend the day! Time for Laurie and Tommy to head back to Calgary so we sent them off with a good-bye bbq at Christina's.

Nov 10, 2012 - Christina's Birthday Party

Christina's birthday was actually on the 7th but we waited to celebrate so that her son Brian and his wife, Susan who are from Pasadena could join us. Laurie and Tom also arrived from Calgary just in time for a fabulous dinner at La Spiga, one of our favourite restaurants in the valley. Unfortunately the weather cooled off as predicted so we couldn't sit outside in the beautiful courtyard but the meal was wonderful as usual. We went to Christina's house after dinner where she opened gifts and we all enjoyed her favourite Swedish cake,...

Nov 9, 2012 - Hot and Happy in La Quinta

We arrived in La Quinta after a relatively easy drive from St. George. Driving through Las Vegas may not have been so simple if not for our trusty GPS, "Jack". As it turned out, we arrived the same day as Pam's Dad, Lloyd and we headed straight to his partner Christina's place. After a happy reunion, Christina took us to her condo at the Rancho La Quinta Country Club, a short drive from her house and our home to be for the next few weeks. It's a great condo in a beautiful location! The country club has 2 golf courses (unfortunately for...

Sep 27, 2012 - Day-2 La Quinta

Day 2, in La Quinta, was spent unpacking and adjusting to the dessert climate. Here in the dessert, you soon learn that a cool day is 95 F and that the mornings, late afternoon, and evenings hours are the best times for out-door activity. Now, let’s talk about La Quinta. What a beautiful and charming City. Located just SE of Palm Springs, CA, it is home to the nationally acclaimed Arnold Palmer Classic Course at Silver Rock Resort. La Quinta is a golfer’s paradise. But wait, La Quinta is more then just golf! La Quinta has a charming town...

Apr 8, 2012 - Palm Desert and La Quinta

We're back in the desert for a short visit before packing up Lloyd's van and driving it back to Calgary. First few days were spent at the rental house with Cam, golfing and relaxing by the pool. Then we headed over to Christina's place in La Quinta for a couple of nights where we had a nice visit with Lloyd, Christina and Christina's son and daughter-in-law Brian and Susan. Christina cooked up an awesome Easter dinner for all of us plus 4 of her close friends. Tomorrow we'll pack up the van with the bikes, golf clubs, luggage and various...
