This morning we toured the old 'Preston Castle' (a late 1880's boys Reform School) that is being restored by a local foundation. Actor 'Rory Calhoon and Singer Merl Haggard were once residents here... Haggard is reported to have tried to escape 19 times.... Kool old building and example of the era's Architecture. Jun 10, 2009 - Around And About!
....And mostly playing “catch-up” on this Journal! Mid-week after Memorial Day we took the motorhome up to Don and Joan’s for a getaway on their 5 acre oak tree-studded property near Ione/Sutter Creek in the gold country. We last saw them last January when we were staying in Quartzsite and they were parked in their 5th-wheel in nearby Brenda, AZ. Their beautiful place is so relaxing with just sitting around breathing in the scenery and wildlife our favorite pastime, other than catching up with our friends and wonderful shared meals. Dec 10, 2007 - Over The River And Thru The Woods!
Our "Fugue" disorder is running rampant and after 3 weeks in Petaluma (but who's counting) we need to get out of the Elk's Lodge RV parking lot! Our wonderful friends, Don and Joan, have a beautiful 5 acre, Oak tree studded site in Ione in the CA. gold country and we have "parking privileges"! Joan, Don and I go back to pre-Howard days. Joan and I worked together in real estate and were best friends out of the office. And now the four of us continue to be best friends after all these years. Nov 9, 2007 - Lake Camanche Hunting Preserve~Ione, California
On November 9th we headed for Lake Camanche Hunting Preserve. Our family has been charter members for 14+ years. Camanche is a great get away to relax and enjoy the scenery and do some shooting. Mel bought me a 20 gauge Berretta semi automatic shot gun on my Birthday last year and we decided to try it out. The weather has been so great we thought we could do some shooting on the sporting clays course. Very challenging I must say! However, it is a lot of fun!
