Jul 21, 2010 - Hollywood

We woke up, packed and went out to get breakfast in a cafe on Hollywood Blvd. We had another look at the stars on the walk of fame. We set off on a hunt for Michael Jackson's star. Before long we had to step onto the road to get round a crowd of tourists. Wondering what they were looking at, I found that it was the Michael Jackson star right there. It's odd how people get excited about someone's name written into the pavement, but we sort of enjoyed it too. I guess celebrity is a thing that makes little sense anyway. After a little, er,...

Jun 14, 2010 - Hollywood, CA

This morning we waited until what we thought was well past "rush hour" to travel back into Hollywood. When we got on CA101 there were cars everywhere - Bill said he thought it was the most traffic he had ever seen anywhere. With all the traffic, we were quite surprised that we moved right along with no stops or hang ups. We played "tourist" today and did all the Hollywood stuff. In addition to the Walk of Fame with all the celebrity stars, we took an open bus tour that took us around the area. Our tour driver pointed out all the celebrity...

Jun 6, 2010 - A Day at the Beach

Today was a beach day. We stayed mainly around town and laid out for awhile. After laying out we got on bikes and rode about 8 miles to visit some other beaches. We had a nice lunch at Hermosa beach and then headed back to our hotel. At the hotel we decided to lay down for a nice quick nap that ended up into a long one!! A quick dinner and a drink and we are getting ready to go back to bed for the night... Another long road trippin day tomorrow!

Jun 5, 2010 - The Proposal

We went to Hollywood, CA to see the sign and watch the sunset. We found an off the beaten path to drive up that was on the hill below the sign. When we got there, there was only a couple of of people so it was nice and private. Brian got us a little adventurous and had us climb down the hill some so we could see the reservoir a little better along with the sunset and sign. Once we climbed down we had some nice romantic alone time together and then as soon as the sunset... the proposal came. I was SHOCKED... I started shaking pretty bad to...

May 10, 2010 - That sums up our day

When my alarm went off I was quick to get out of bed and get ready excited for the day ahead. Once we were ready we got the bus to Hollywood Blvd where we were to change buses. At the bus stop we met two Aussie guys Andrew and Tom. Turns out they were heading to Universal Studios too. We caught the bus with them and ended up spending the day with them. It worked out well as Bek hates rides and it meant I had people to go on rides with. There were so many shows to see 3D terminator, 4D Shrek, famous animal actors and Waterworld. It seems the...

May 9, 2010 - But it's Hollywood and we had to do it

Another early arrival in a new city. Our hostel was only a short bus ride away from the Greyhound and luckily we walked straight onto a bus. Unfortunatley we didn't have the same luck at the hostel and had to wait till 12pm to check in after arriving at 7:40am. I took advantage of the wifi and common area and did some planning and booking for the next couple of days. We couldn't wait to check in to our room and shower. Every shower brings new experiences, this one had a mind of it's own and changed temperature periodically. Once ready we...

Feb 19, 2010 - Warner Brothers Studios

Today we went on a two hour tour of Warner Brothers Studios. Finding the visitor centre was fun but we eventually did. After a quick lunch we started the tour, Tony stopping to have his photo taken with Bugs Bunny. The name Warner Brothers honours the four founding Polish Jewish brothers Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack who started in the exhibition business, having acquired a movie projector with which they showed films in the mining towns of Pennsylvania and Ohio. They opened their first theater, the Cascade, in New Castle, Pennsylvania in...

Feb 19, 2010 - Hollywood

We were lucky on the drive to Hollywood Wednesday - traffic was light and we were checked into the Beverly Laurel Hotel by 2pm. The hotel was an old, remodeled hotel - we got upgraded to a suite with a kitchen. The room was decorated with pictures of old movie stars and a signed Elvis guitar. Since the hotel was just a few blocks from several restaurants, The Grove, The Farmers Market and the CBS studios it was easy to walk to everything we wanted to visit during our stay - we didn’t move the car at all during our stay. The farmers market...

Winter 2010

Feb 3, 2010 - Hollywood

Jerry and I decided that we would go on a sightseeing tour to see the homes of the stars in Hollywood. We thought we might regret it, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Our guide had a great sense of humor and obviously enjoyed showing people around Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Bel-Air. I took a lot of photos and will let them tell the story of what we saw. The highlights were seeing the homes of the rich and famous, some you could only get a peak of through the fence or landscaping, Grauman's Chinese Theatre with all the footprints,...

Jan 22, 2010 - Hollywood, CA

We drove to Los Angeles today to spend the night in Hollywood before heading out on our cruise to the Mexican Riviera. We had a nice drive despite the bad storms affecting the area this past week. We visited the Hollywood Walk of Fame, (despite the rain) and drove around the area a bit before heading to our hotel. We hope to visit LA again someday when we can spend more time sightseeing.

Going Down MC's-LANE

Nov 8, 2009 - Universal Studio: assez trippant
