Nov 1, 2019 - Wow, Where Did The Time Go?

Its hard to believe it’s been almost 8 weeks since we embarked on our Four Corners adventure. We’ve covered a lot of miles, both in the RV and the car. We’ve seen a lot of really cool scenery and met some really great people along the way. But, as in all things, our adventure has to come to an end eventually, so tomorrow we will be heading toward home. We have been here in Buellton since Tuesday and it has been really nice here at Flying Flags RV Park. It’s been a while since we’ve stayed here and the park has really grown. We were lucky...

Oct 30, 2019 - Split Pea Soup and Windmills

Well, here we are in Buellton, CA on the 30th of October. It is hard to believe it has been 7 weeks since we left home in Benicia to start this epic RV adventure. We will leave here on Saturday, Nov 2, for home sweet home. Due to weather conditions, fires, and just plain weariness, we are cutting our trip short by about 6 days. Cooper has been such a good little trooper on this trip; he is our own little Good Will Ambassador and ready to meet and greet every person (and most dogs) we encounter. Before we left Desert Hot Springs, we...

Apr 22, 2013 - Buellton, CA

We moved 90 miles from Paso Robles to Buellton, to visit Janet's Aunt Mary Jean and Uncle David in Santa Ynez. We were advised that a minor detour would be interesting, so instead of going straight south we went west to the ocean and took the Pacific Coast Highway and California Rt 1 for about 30 miles south, then came back to Rt 101 "The Freeway" for the rest of the trip. This is California's central coast and is somewhat rural, so the PCH and the 101 are both scenic. We couldn't pass up a chance to be so close to the Pacific and not see...

Feb 17, 2013 - Chow down day

We went to breakfast at Ellen's Pancake House, good breakfast. After breakfast, Bob and Mary left and soon after Wes and Jenny came over. We visited in the Moho and then went to Solvang for a beer at The Solvang Brewery. Had a nice visit, then went to AJ Spures and piged out on some BBQ. Stuffed. Jenny and Wes left and me and Norma just chilled out the rest of the evening. Man, these trips go by so fast.

Feb 16, 2013 - Famous Jalama Burgers and wine

Me and Norma went wine tasting towards Lompoc. Checked out a couple cool wineries. We found an RV park in Lompoc that was $20 a night for full hook ups, 14 day stay max. River Park campground, not fancy but looked ok. http://www.cityoflompoc.com/parks_rec/river.htm We decided to go towards the beach, saw the Jalama sign and decided to to get a famous Jalama Burger. Jalama was packed, took an hour to get our burgers, but worth the wait. We ate on a picknic bench overlooking the ocean. Weather was perfect, warm but not hot. We checked out...

Feb 15, 2013 - Lunch in Solvang

Woke up to a nice sunny day, suppose to be 72 degrees today. Drove to Solvang from our RV site, only about 6 miles. Had a good lunch and some Solvang brewed beer. Sampled one beer that was 10 percent alcohol, ouch. Walked around and Norma got some chocolate flavored strawberrys.

Feb 14, 2013 - Flying Flags RV Resort

Happy Valentines Day. We left baks around 8:00 am and went on 166 to Buellton. We stopped at Cuyama and had breakfast, it was pretty good. The drive was nice, the road is windy so I just took it slow. The scenery is pretty. We arrived at Flying Flags around 11:30 am. Check was pleasant and the staff is very helpful. Gave us some fresh cookies and escorted us to our site. The site was easy to get into, plenty long for Moho and roki. Site has a BBQ grill and fire pit. Relaxed and then did some more relaxing. We made an awesome Valentines...

Jun 4, 2012 - Buellton CA

It was a beautiful drive over the coastal mountains of southern California, through Paso Robles to Buellton and Flying Flags RV Resort where we met Mike and Sally Theroux, Shelle and Murray McDole and other members of the Golden Bears for our RV rally. Mike and Sally and we were the trail bosses so immediately upon getting the RV set up, Sally and I organized the kitchen and got ready for the Heavy Hors d’oeuvres party at 6 PM. Attendees included Peter and Bev King, Jack and Bev Reed, Marc and Joanne Sandford, Mike and Ellene Gibbs, Ken and...

Nov 20, 2011 - "It never rains in Southern California..."

The song says it never rains in southern California. Well it rained all night and was raining this morning when we left the campground. Our first stop was in San Luis Obispo to see the "World's First Motel". It may not be standing much longer as it is closed and fenced off. We couldn't get close enough for a picture so I included the sign and one of the motel from Roadside America.com. As you can see the most recent name was "Motel Inn," it opened in 1925 as "Motor Hotel," and by fate or economy it became the first to squeeze the words...

2011 Triangle Tour

Oct 28, 2011 - Santa Barbara area

October 22nd.... We traveled 240 miles today from Morgan Hill to the California Central Coast. Our base for the next week is The Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton (recommended to us by a neighbor in Issaquah), which is about 45 miles north of Santa Barbara. While the park is nicely laid-out and well cared for, what we like the most about it is that it feels like a community - Saturday night ice cream social and movie on an inflatable screen on the lawn, Sunday morning breakfast and Friday evening barbeque - fun! October 24th.... The...

Apr 16, 2011 - Arrival

Arrived at 615 in the morning. Found two open hook up sites right next to each other. Pulled in and set up camp. When we walked up to ranger station at 7 to pay for sited we were told that our site was paid for through Sunday morning. We told them the site was empty and explained that their registration system is ridiculous since there is nothing posted anywhere to let us know a site is taken. They said tough luck and gave me a list of open sites. We talked to our neighbors who said the people in our site packed up and left at 545. So we...

Jul 1, 2010 - Moving day

Hello again, Today was moving day again. We have traveled up the coast of California to Buellton. This is north of Santa Barbara and real close to Solvang. Two locations that our girl Connie wants to visit. We had no problem leaving Los Angeles after rush hour traffic. This was a concern after all of the traffic we have experienced, but we made it just fine. After we arrived at our RV park, Flying Flags, we decided to visit Solvang. When we arrived most of the stores were closing and so we did a quick walk around, visited a bakery for a...
