Jan 17, 2018 - We Made It to Arroyo Grande

We got out early today - 8:15. Not used to the 2-hr time change we have since Louisiana so we wake up early. The first half of our journey today was Mojave Desert - not too much to see. The Joshua Trees were impressive tho! As we descended Tehachapi Pass we noticed the hills starting to turn green from the recent rains. Closer down to the Central Valley, we first had a view of fog from above it & then descended thru the fog into the valley. We were reminded why we don't like the California Central Valley in the winter. Once we hit the...

Oct 4, 2016 - 2016 Trip Ends at Arroyo Grande

This morning it didn't take much packing up before we hit the road on the last day of our epic summer trip. There was no wind - it was a beautiful day. We had nice views thru Tehachapi Pass but noticed how dry the hillsides are. When we got to the Central Valley the fields they irrigate are green but everything else is brown & the air quality was terrible - could hardly see the mountains. But we weren't in the valley too long before we were headed across the Caliente Range into the Cuyama Valley & then thru the Sierra Madre...

Nov 6, 2014 - On to Arroyo Grande

This morning we left Hartland about 9:00 am & made the 200 mile drive down the mountain & across the Central Valley & Coastal Range to Arroyo Grande. It was foggy in the Central Valley this morning but the fog had lifted by the time we got down to the valley. We had good visibility but no sunshine. It was an easy drive & we got to Arroyo Grande around 2:00 pm. David's sister, Norma, & husband, Danny, share 5 acres with daughter Julie & family & have 2 full hookup sites on the property. We park right next to Norma & Danny. It's a beautiful...

Aug 30, 2013 - Last Day of Our Alaska Trip

Whew! We finally made it! Is the last day of a trip always the hardest? It took us an hour to go 30 miles thru the Bay Area. We were stopped for an hour on the freeway for an accident below Gilroy (but thank God we were just stopped & not involved in the multi-car accident!). It was 100 degrees when we stopped at a rest stop outside Paso Robles. It was after 6:00 when we finally arrived! But we made it & David's sister & husband, Norma & Danny, were waiting to greet us. We all went out to Paisano's for pizza for dinner. But what a trip -...

Mar 18, 2013 - The Tres Apollo Amigos

Even though I have lived all of my life in California and Dennis has been here for 20 plus his two tours of duty at Camp Pendleton, there is still more to see in this great state…..we just spent 11 days in Central Coastal California in the Oceano/Five Cities, Avila Beach, Paso Robles and Santa Maria We began our trip after I attended the baby shower for Kelli’s best friend, Jen. She and her husband, Will, are having their first, a boy named Liam, next month. Kelli and Jaime Thompson threw an amazing shower at Kelli and Dan’s home in...

Nov 30, 2012 - In Arroyo Grande

We had a good trip from Visalia to Arroyo Grande. Then it decided to rain a little while we were setting up the trailer. We waited a day to move because the weather forecast heavy rain on Wed & just showers on Thurs - guess we set up during a shower! What a great place to spend the winter - we're basically in the country & it is sooo quiet. Nice change from the city we were in for the past month. Good to be back with family! They had a great BBQ dinner for us Thurs evening & it was fun to be with everybody again. Today Norma & Danny took us...

Sep 29, 2011 - First Trip

Our first trip was a rather short one - just 210 miles. We stopped in Visalia to put new "shoes" on the 5th wheel and then headed for the coast. We'll be staying here at David's sister, Norma, and family's for about 12 days and having a little family reunion when his other sister, Alyce, and husband arrive with their 5th wheel on Monday. We have a lovely full hookup site here with a nice grass front yard and it's beautiful coastal weather. Tonight we went out to dinner at a favorite Mexican restaurant and then drove down to the beach....

Feb 26, 2010 - Lopez Campout

We had a campout at Lopez Lake the weekend of February 26. We had rain Friday night and part of Saturday. Bill was able to get the BBQ going Saturday and we all had a great time. It was the maiden voyage of Jim & Paula’s new 5th wheel which is a very nice unit. Because it was raining off and on, we did a lot of visiting. It was a very relaxing weekend and everyone had fun.

Dec 30, 2009 - Lopez Lake - New Years

Well the second annual New Years Campout is over. It was a great success again. We had 14 campers and some day visitors this time. We took over almost the full top level of Bandtail camp area. Starting on Tuesday 29th it was ladies night. Jim Elkins, Jerry Gunn and myself all had to work the next day, so we got the ladies (Belinda, Paula & Karmen) all set up and then had to leave. They seamed to have fun? We heard them say something like ‘What happens at Lopez, stays at Lopez’ then laughed. We still do not know what that was all about. The...

Apr 11, 2008 - California West Coast

Chris kept us awake all night coughing. Up at the crack of dawn, had a cup of tea before leaving hotel just before 8.00a.m. Drove to 17 mile drive and called in at Pebble Beach Golf Club for breakfast. Had All American breakfast in the Still Water dining room overlooking the ocean and 18th green. We took a stroll through the grounds of the golf club but Ramos, a Mexican, gave us a ride back to the club house in his buggy from the 17th hole. Had a look around the shops, but didn't buy anything, before leaving for Carmel and on to the Big...
