Nov 14, 2014 - Alabama Hills, CA - Whitney-Portal Road

(Ron Writing) This morning Elena made omelets and cornbread for breakfast. Then we packed a lunch and drove back to the north end of Movie Flat Road for a repeat of our hike to Mobius Arch. I wanted to see if I could get a better photo of this scene with today’s clear sky and bright sunshine. I’m not sure my photo was any better than the last one but we did have a nice hike and also an enjoyable visit with a couple we met at the arch. From there we drove around some of the “roads” on the north end and then headed west on Whitney-Portal...

Nov 13, 2014 - Alabama Hills, CA - A Little More Exploring

(Ron Writing) We had a nice relaxing morning at home. This afternoon we took a drive on another loop road to the south of Whitney Portal Road. We had a map showing various rock formations that were supposed to look like animals, etc. We found a couple but I’m afraid our imagination did not match that of the author of that map. But we did enjoy the scenery and getting in a couple short hikes. It was a little cloudy today but there was no wind and the temperature was in the low 70’s. Nov 12, 2014 - Alabama Hills, CA - Manzanar National Historic Site

(Ron Writing) This morning we drove in to Lone Pine to have breakfast at Alabama Hills Café and Bakery. It’s a quaint cafe known for their breakfasts served in generous portions and also their cinnamon rolls and other baked goods. Elena had an omelet and I had a breakfast burrito. Both servings were much more than we could eat so we have enough for another meal. We also purchased one of their large cinnamon rolls, which we enjoyed for dessert tonight.
