Jan 27, 2020 - Oh, Yeah...warmer weather

Finally, the warmer weather we signed up for has appeared. Mid 70's everyday, mild winds so far. Higher winds over the next few days but back to light and variable by the weekend...in fact low 80's are forecast for Saturday and Sunday. A burger bash on Saturday will draw a crowd. This is based on the number of folks out during the day and early evening over the past few days. Okay, now let's catchup on the last few days. Thursday, we were around town for a few items but were back in time to go to the pre concert dinner outside around the...

Jan 22, 2020 - Better weather

A little better weather. The forecast has shown the last two days that tomorrow will be 70 degrees plus. Today keeps being the same...mid 60's...but we have sunshine. On Tuesday there were a few clouds but they blew in and out and a majority of the day was clear with a little wind. We spent more time on Tuesday morning working on our plans for a trip toward the northwest. We will try to go as far west as Spokane, WA before heading back to the south and eventually eastward. We are selecting critical pivot points where we want to stop and...

Jan 20, 2020 - The weekend...and more

Friday was warm and...windy (if you can imagine that) and beautifully clear. The temperatures going forward are all in the 70's. Friday however only made it to about 68. In the sunshine it was warm...in the shade and the wind...it was cool. It was my worst round of golf in Arizona. I was glad when it was over. Then it was back to the Bus. From then until bedtime we were busy. Trips to the store, preparing dinner and then eating and the after golf shower did not take place until about 10:30. Sue was busy working on her computer, doing...

Jan 19, 2020 - Yuma AZ

On Thursday we could only muster a purchase-free stroll through the local flea market, a taco-less stop at Chipotle for lunch, then some restocking at Fry’s, the local go-to for groceries. Gotta pace ourselves...can’t do everything Yuma has to offer too soon. Friday though, was a bigger day. Our first stop was to tour the Heritage Center museum at the Yuma Proving Ground, the home of the U.S. Army’s main testing center for weapons technology https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuma_Proving_Ground. They test weapons including artillery,...

Jan 16, 2020 - So far this week...

Well we are now sitting here on Thursday night. Monday was a good day weather wise. It was a golf day at the little tournament I have now played in twice at Yuma Country Club. Not a great outing but we had a great time. Sue was at the Bus with Ziva and they took it easy...except for laundry, walking to the mail room and trips to the Doggie Park. Our evening after I returned was to get ready for the National Championship football game. Yea for the SEC. It was hard to root for LSU but had to because of the SEC. It took a while to play and it...

Jan 15, 2020 - Yuma AZ

In order to add some filler to this update, I figured I’d throw in some things of interest that we have learned about Yuma. Not only does this blog entertain and amaze; it also educates. You’re welcome. Most surprising thing we have learned so far is that about 97,000 people live here...I would have never guessed that...and this time of year the population almost doubles due to the influx of snowbirds looking to escape the cold, including a lot from western Canada. The draw for the snowbirds is obvious though it still gets cold here,...

Jan 12, 2020 - A few easy days...

Friday was a pretty day...just windy. Winds of 15 - 20 mph with gusts higher. It made it seem cooler than it really was. Played golf with 2 Canadians and 2 guys from NE Oregon. We got along great and had a great time. The Marines kept a lot of planes in the air. The real distraction from Desert Hills is not the view of the valley but all the air traffic at the Air Station. With that and the wind...it was a long round of golf. Sue and Ziva did some walking while I was gone and both were tired when I returned. I am not sure which was more...

Jan 12, 2020 - Yuma AZ

We escaped California Friday morning and after a 5 hour drive we pulled into our new home in Yuma, just north of the Mexican border and barely into the Mountain Time Zone. We were in California for a little over 3 weeks and here is what we’ve learned. It is absolutely beautiful and everyone we dealt with was very nice; surprisingly nice considering the things they have to put up with. The high cost of living, the brutal traffic, the embarrassing homeless situation, abysmal road conditions, outrageous taxes and ridiculous laws are just a...

Jan 8, 2020 - Two really beautiful days...finally

Finally, two really beautiful days. The only issue is that when we sit in the screen area on the east side of the Bus and there is any breeze...72 degrees can be cool. However, with no wind...it is great. On the other hand, if you are out in the sun...72 degrees can be quite warm. We are having a difficult time adjusting to the very low humidity out here. The minute the sun starts to drop to a very steep angle...it get cool very quickly. It is so much different to feeling the heat and the humidity in the south is so totally different. Oh...

Jan 6, 2020 - Football, Football, New Years and more Football

Well, HAPPY NEW YEAR...2020. Since I last posted our focus has been on watching football, occasional basketball and more football. I will post some pictures on the next posting and maybe cover some items that have occurred over the last week or so. Nothing of real significance has occurred but we have tried to enjoy all of the events that we could. Weather has been cooler than we want it to be, at least for this time of year. We have had a few days with highs only in the 50's, with other days in the mid 60's. Not too bad...until you throw...

Jan 3, 2020 - Happy New year!

I need to play catch up and fill you in on all that has been happening since we arrived in November 2019. The weather initially was pretty hot, like 96! Thankfully it has cooled down considerably to a comfortable 65 degrees as of today! And I'm sure all of you had better weather for Thanksgiving than we did here. Our Thanksgiving was raining, cool, and came complete with 40 mph winds! Spike had to put the Traeger smoker behind the Casita to block the wind so he could cook the turkeys. (We cooked two 10 pound Turkeys just like last year)....

Dec 27, 2019 - Christmas through today

Christmas morning was a lazy time for all of us. I was the first up and I had breakfast and sent Christmas messages to several friends and relatives. I sent Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas wishes to Aunt Judy as her birthday is on Christmas Day. Ziva and I went to the Dog Park a little later than usual only to find that everyone else was starting the day slowly...just like us. I got a picture of some of the crowd that was there while we were there. I think there were five dogs in there when I took this picture and then one left and one...
