Apr 26, 2019 - Desert Gem RV Park - (4/16 - 4/18/19)

This was a short drive, only 35 miles to Salome. The Desert Gem isn't a lot to look at, but it has full hookups and is only $15 a night for Passport America. This is another stop on the Arizona Peace Trail where Dirk and company will be stopping. We took a ride out into the desert on what we believe to be part of the APT. It is really nice out in the desert. On Wednesday we took a ride out into the desert trying to get to the mountains. We ended up making several attempts before we got going in the right direction. Along the way we...

Mar 6, 2018 - Desert...Day 2

Yea!!! One night survived. Batteries only. They were about to hit the point that charging would be necessary to avoid battery damage. Anyway at 7:10 a.m. I fired up the generator to recharge the batteries...but most of all to run the coffee pot. We ran the generator 2 hours and the batteries were 100% charged. By 4:30 they would be back down to 70% so we ran the generator 30 minutes and boosted the level. Around 6:30 we started again to cook, watch television and charge the batteries sufficiently to get us through the night. More on this...

Mar 5, 2018 - Ready or not...Day One in the desert

Up early...today is the day...Hooray or Uh Oh. Prep the Bus to move to the desert. Vacuum, stow, prepare the inside for moving and prepare the outside for moving. By 9:30 the Bus was ready. We waited until about 10:00 to allow Pat and Bridget time to get ready to move. Then, we were off. Suddenly, we were having a few more smart wheel issues but we were able to get to the desert. Howard helped me put the Bus where he wanted to allow the circle of RV's to be big enough for all the rigs. Between 40 & 45 RV's are expected. Need a big circle....

Mar 4, 2018 - Are we ready...for the desert that is...

Today is the last day before we get into the desert to boondock. For those of you not familiar with that term, it means to park with out hookups - water, electric or sewer. You are just there relying on the batteries, your generator, your solar panel, how well you manage your water source and your output...grey and black water. Plus we will be on Bureau of Land Management land and totally in the desert. WooHoo ! ! I hope. So today, we took Pat and Bridget up to the north BLM land and found where we will be for the next week. We ended up...

Mar 3, 2018 - Moving toward the desert

Friday morning was moving day. From Yuma toward our boondocking rally north of Quartzsite. Our stop would be La Paz Valley RV Park. This is about 5 miles south of Quartzsite. Since there was no reason to be in a hurry for a 70 mile drive we moved at a steady but deliberate pace to prepare for the move. We had to make one more run to get everything we needed for the trip so we got everything ready inside before we left for our final run. We returned and I started the process of unhooking water and sewer and finally electricity. Then Sue...

Mar 4, 2017 - Back in Salome

Mar 4, 2017 Just hanging around today, made a trip to the Post Office and the local Family Dollar for supplies, those things we did not get yesterday at Wal-Mart, The Family Dollar had everything. I get home and do laundry, and clean the rig. At 4 we head over to the back yard neighbors for snacks and talk. Come home for a spaghetti dinner. The sites for the houses and rigs are large and it would be nice if they had these in Washington.

Mar 2, 2017 - Salome

Mar 2, 2017 we have left Las Vegas and are headed to Salome, AZ. This is the home of our friends John and Shirley Schilstra. They have a park model in a division with another 50amp hookup on the other side of the property. We get there late afternoon, especially since we have passed into Mountain time. We get set up and visit for awhile. John gets to show off the ATV and takes each of us for a ride, separately. We also stop and meet the neighbors. Everyone is real friendly. More visiting after dinner and we head off to bed.

Jan 6, 2012 - Desert Vista-Salome, AZ/Desert Gold-Brenda, AZ

Hi everyone...it's been a while since I updated on my Good Sam Journal. I was finally able to get on with my password. Had to e-mail Good Sam. Still don't know what the problem was, but it's fixed now and I can get on with my updates. We were in Salome, AZ at Desert Vista RV Resort for a week. The park was nice but as I think I told you from my e-mail message, we were out in the middle of nowhere. We found a few things to do and I have included some pictures. A week ago yesterday (Mon) we went to a town called Wickenburg. It was around 57...

May 25, 2011 - OTRA - AZ - Salome

5/25/11 We took Stanley to Oatman yesterday...stopping at the Needles Chamber of Commerce along the way to get some information for him to send back to New York. While we were there, I noticed there was a cache right on the spot so Stanley got to geocache. Also rode a burro in Oatman. Today we got a nice early start towards our next stop in Salome, AZ. Left at 8:45 a.m. to beat the heat. Pulled into the 3 Dreamer's RV Park at 11:20 after an easy, scenic drive along very lightly traveled Route 95. We'll be here for 2 nights before we head...

We spent a week here preparing for our 2 weeks of dry camping in Quartzsite. That means we come in with empty black and gray water tanks and full water, propane, and diesel tanks, and fully charged batteries. We also cook and freeze as much food as we can plan ahead.
