Oct 15, 2017 - Camp Verde, Az

On I-40 heading for Camp Verde for a three night stay. Roger & ReeAnn left for Picacho Peak early in the morning. We had an awesome time traveling with them, so much laughter & we took in great sights together. We truly enjoyed their company ! Pete & I stayed at the Zane Gray RV Park just on the out skirts of Camp Verde. We've have stayed here twice before & enjoy the park very much. Its quiet & there is lots of room for the 5th-wheel & truck. During our stay we hit the Casino, went to Cottonwood & generally just goofed around.

Dog News Little Bear became an official BARK Ranger on Monday at Montezuma Castle National Monument. She and I pledged to: A - Bag the poo B - Always wear a leash C - Respect wildlife D - Know where you can go Also BARK Rangers are allowed in visitor centers if carried or in a stroller. In other dog news, about 8 of every 10 RV parks now have a fenced in dog park on the grounds; some are big, some are tiny and all are appreciated! The Verde Valley is new to us; the Verde River is one of the last free flowing rivers in the state of Arizon....

May 15, 2017 - Leg #1 - 2017 Summer Travels

/// Cocopah RV Resort Yuma, AZ Monday, May 15, 2017 // The past few days have been a little hectic as we packed the Airstream and closed the park model. There seemed to be an endless list of little details that required attention. We managed. // This morning we were loaded up, hitched-up and ready to leave by 0800 hrs. But first, I had to check in with the office and settle my electric power bill for the Airstream site. Then we had an opportunity to bid our farewells to some neighbors and friends. // We hit the road for the first leg of our...

Mar 3, 2017 - Montezuma's Castle

We decided to head a little north. On the way we thought we would stop at a Casino. Many Casinos offer free camping for RVs. We found a spot in a parking lot at the Cliff Casino in Camp Verde. There is a large dirt lot that we stayed in. At the other end there were several temporary stalls with local native crafts. The only craft we wanted was fry bread. This is a flattened soft dough that is deep fried to a golden color. Add a little honey, cinnamon and sugar. Yummm!! Of course fried dough is another one of my favorite food groups but this...

May 20, 2016 - Camp Verde, AZ

Today was our day off so it was time to do the wash, etc. Richie & Kathy went to Zion & Bryce Canyon & will meet us in Los Vegas, NV in a few days. Bill & Charlie went in the hot tub & pool. Distant Drum RV park is one of my favorite campgrounds. It's close to everything & great as a home base. Our dashboard lights were staying on. Richie was determined he was going to fix it. After me having a few heart attacks he actually fixed the problem and he put all the wires back where they belong. An electrical guru. I didn't even know those wires...

May 19, 2016 - Jerome, AZ

Today we took a short ride to Jerome, AZ. A cute little town with it's very own Brothel which is now a store selling related specialty items and such. We also had to go to the hot pepper store. We ate at Grapes restaurant which was really good. After lunch we drove up the road to the town of Ghost Town. Population of 12. The owner said there might be a few more since some have kids. Just wondering how hard is it to keep track of the total population when it's around 12. He has been living there for 32 years and collects everything and I...

May 18, 2016 - Sedona

today we went downtown Sedona. We took the trolley tours. It was great. We visited the Chapel on the Hill among other points of interest. Very informative. We also ate lunch at the Cowboy Cafe. Back in the day John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Elvis ate there. Rachel Ray ate there & did her show from there. Bill ordered Rattle Snake sausage which we all tried. It tasted like Kielbasa. Ya just have to get over the fact that it's a snake. Yikes Bill also had a Buffalo burger & cactus fries.

May 16, 2016 - Camp Verde, AZ

Camped at Distant Drums RV Resort - We were here 10 years ago & it is still one of the best RV parks we have been to. We're very close to Sadona, Jerome, Cottonwood, Prescot and there is a Casino really close that has a free shuttle that picks us up at the campground & drops us off. Dinner at their buffet tonight. Great food 5/17 - Went to Montezuma's Castle to see the great cliff dwellings & then to Montezuma's Well to see the Pithouses where they lived before advancing to cliff dwellings.& where the Indians believed the messenger snakes...

Feb 23, 2016 - Camp Verde

Yesterday, we left the Grand Canyon and headed back down AZ-64, East on I-40, and the turned South on I-17. Two and a half hours and 137 miles and we landed in Camp Verde, about halfway between Flagstaff and Phoenix. We're in the Distant Drums RV Resort. This is a really nice little campground, owned and operated by The Yavapai-Apache Nation. We'll be here for two nights and then head further South to Casa Grande. While here, we took a quick ride over to the town of Jerome. This was once one of the wildest towns in the old wild west. The...
