Nov 4, 2019 - Thatcher at work

The tow path is so muddy in places after the rain that you slip and slide and get bogged in it. Saw this on our walk yesterday - a long walk to Pewsey Wharf which was a round trip of 11km. We went to check out if there was any moooring space there - NO!!!!!! All the available spaces are taken. The sun was shining on this house peering over the stubble as we walked back.. The thatcher is at work today,poor sod has to get down the ladder every time a vehicle comes along to let them past as the road is so narrow. The council apparently...

Nov 2, 2019 - Wet and windy

A new thatch happening in the village, being Saturday there was no one working on it, but if we can manage to stay here until Monday we may get to see them putting it together. The local pub is a 16th Century building. This is another village with lots of thatched roofs. An impressive dry stone wall in someone's garden. The Church is very plain - not a stained glass in sight. A lovely pulpit though. I thought this grave stone was interesting. History in the clock tower. Nov 1, 2019 - Up again, down again, jiggity jig

After going up another 50' over 6 locks we reached the summmit, which is no comparison to the Leeds & Liverpool canal summit, then we reached the Bruce tunnel. and wouldn't you know it , the only boat we met today was just approaching the other end of the tunnel with a headlight that wasn't working and just using a phone torch to see their way through!!! Compared to the other tunnels we've been through this one was easy! There was no dripping water at all and the roof was quite high - we still had to have the roof down all the way...
