Sep 3, 2019 - Ravenglass to Seathwaite

15.9miles Ravenglass to Seathwaite well not in this case I had a pleasant overnight stay at the Rosegarth B & B on the towns main street; just 2 minutes walk from the railway station I had arrived at the previous day after a long journey from Lowestoft. The previous night was a success too as the inn at Ravenglass was situated next door and offered a Great curry and real ale. After breakfast, a superb offering without the spawn of the devil, also known as hash browns. I expected my first days walk to be about 16 miles to Seathwaite. The...

Oct 12, 2014 - Woking, Surrey to the Lake District

Spent most of Saturday lazing around with our friends Gilly and Julian in their house in Woking, Surrey. Also spent quite a lot of time getting my GPS to work in the UK. Turns out my software for the UK had expired and eventually I had buy another package. On Sunday we drove up to Irton Hall in the Lake District where we are staying in a cottage alongside the mansion.

Apr 19, 2013 - An eventful day!

Friday 19th April Went to the Outward Bound School at Eskdale. I was there for a month in February 1961. They had got out the yearbook in which I attended and showed me our team leaders report on the team as well as a photo of our patrol. The instructors/staff were extremely welcoming and made it a pleasant visit. After wandering around a bit I actually remembered where I had slept while there, in the dormitory block in the upper level of the Stable Block. Afterwards we decided to drive to the Wasdale Head Inn where we spent part of our...

Apr 18, 2013 - A few days in the Lake District

Wednesday 17th April Finally arrived in the Lake District after fighting with our GPS on the way. We stopped in a place called Colsterworth in Linconsire on the way up so Gill could visit a friend in a village called North Kyme. We stayed in a Travelodge motel which coexisted with a bunch of fast food joints just off of the A1 motorway. Have uploaded a photo. Today, Friday, we drove across England and then up north to the Lake District. The hotel we booked into is very nice, great location and views. Tomorrow, we will be visiting the...

Jul 8, 2012 - Final exploration day in the Lake District

We woke to grey skies again. We decided to drive the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes to West Water. These passes are extremely interesting to drive. Narrow and single track, in places 25% plus gradients, plenty of bends and wandering sheep. However there are some some spetacular views over some wild and rugged country. It was a pity the weather wasn't better. Crossing the Hardknott pass we discovered the remains of an old Roman fort which had commanding views of the Eskdale Valley. We continued our journey to West Water one of the remotest...
