Jun 5, 2016 - Holidays.......Donna's way!
03 June Lazy morning, lazier afternoon and relaxed evening – now THAT’s a holiday!!! Donna blissfully went about her chores for the day thoroughly engrossed in each and every task. Wayne doesn’t do “blissful” unless it is while he is on the move, while he is checking things out or while there is a sporting event on………..any sporting event to either participate in or watch! So off he went in the morning to see what was happening downtown, home for lunch, then back out to hike to the lookout viewpoint at the top of the hill behind our house....Jump to full entry
May 30, 2016 - no buses today!
After yesterday’s……..fun Donna declared she needed a day off. Wayne, unable to spend an inactive day, wandered into town and attended a local car show. The many unique models were all along a few downtown blocks similar to but much smaller the Qualicum’s show. It did attract a crowd and the most popular car was a huge pink Cadillac convertible from a movie shot in the US. It was as long as 3 UK cars and I can’t imagine where you could ever park the thing over here! They even had a pretty good jazz combo playing and I learned they had a gig...Jump to full entry
May 25, 2016 - put the baby..........?
Prestatyn is a town of about 19,000 people and reminds us a lot of downtown Courtenay with a lovely 5 block main street on a slight hill. It even has a clock outside one of the stores like 5th Avenue has! As we mentioned there is a beautiful waterfront walkway that undoubtedly gets very busy in “the season”. Our new home until 15 June is a lovely 3 bedroom home very similar to what an island home is like. They have a wonderful sunroom that is bathed in sunlight most of the day and at times it get downright hot in there! The kitchen is...Jump to full entry
May 24, 2016 - Yertle the Turtle
Sunshine and blue skies this morning so we grabbed the camera and up the hill we went to capture some of the wonderful views. It was perfect with a little breeze at the top and we noted that the wind generators offshore were still for the first time since we had arrived in town. We walked to the nearby village of Gwaenysgor and visited the church built in the 1200’s. The church grounds were overgrown, which looked shabby for such a wonderful spot, but their little signboard explained why. Some church’s have decided to return to old customs...Jump to full entry
May 23, 2016 - Our hiking, laughing & getting lost friends have moved on!
A brisk walk down to the train station first thing saw Lari & Gayle boarding their train to Manchester in order to make their plane to Paris on time. Wayne had already promised me a down day as we had been on the go every day since our arrival in the UK. Of course he couldn’t stand being at the house the WHOLE day so after we finished doing some laundry and clean-up he took off to find the elusive trail up to the viewpoint. About 2 hours later he comes up the driveway thrilled with his hike, thrilled with his find and thrilled with his day!...Jump to full entry
May 19, 2016 - from backpacking to sweet home Prestatyn
MAY 18 The pub manager arranged a cab for the 2 miles back to Wooten and we caught the local bus winding through the countryside as far as Chipping Sodbury. We had a very nice walk around this charming town waiting for our bus to Bath. A group of fellow hikers also waiting for the bus had recently hiked Wales and assured us we are going to like Prestatyn. Getting dropped near our hotel in Bath gave us time to enjoy a very nice afternoon browsing through town. May 19 Today is travel day and we wound the streets a final time to the train...Jump to full entry
