Jun 28, 2019 - Warming up again???

From Seabrooke we went through to Marsworth and stayed there for a couple of days until the muggy, rainy weather abated. Then we went up the 6 locks to Bulbourne and stayed there overnight. Then we had a big day yesterday and went through 7 locks and into Berkhamstead. So we'll stay here for a couple of days before tackling the next lot of locks. It's supposed to be VERY hot tomorrow - we'll see!!

May 18, 2019 - Through the fields

We walked along the Aylesbury Arm for a while today and then followed a pathway through a farmer's field of broad beans to the village of Wilstone. This row of houses shows how small the original houses were and people are still living in them. On our way back the pathway ended right outside The Angler's Arms pub, so we decided to call in and have a pint. They have a lovely aviary in the yard

May 17, 2019 - Cooling down again!!

The gear some of the fishermen have is absolutely amazing. I think they must be setting up for the weekend with all the gear on this cart. We walked into Marsworth Village (not much there but a couple of rows of houses and the church, and,of course, the mandatory pub.) These gravestones are inside the Church and are quite interesting to read. It's quite a big church for a small village, although having been mentioned in the Doomsday Book must have been quite a thriving place in days gone by. The weather is cooling down again...

May 15, 2019 - Back to Tring

We set off to walk the 4 1/2 miles into Tring to get some groceries. The walk took us along the Weymouth Arm of the Grand Union, which is a short, narrow 6 mile section. We counted at least 10 large carp and a long silver perch sunning themselves in the shallows. The wild flowers/weeds are blooming beautifully now and the wheat fields are coming along nicely. It was quite a lovely 2 hour walk in the sunshine.

May 14, 2019 - Tring Reservoirs

We walked around one of the Reservoirs yesterday afternoon - there are 4 reservoirs which feed the canal. A very popular fishing, walking and picnic area. I spotted this large fish - and the fishing people were on the other side of the lake!!! We went back down to the Aylesbury Arm and there just happened to be a narrow boat going through the lock - you can see how narrow it is. Then I sat on the bank and did my crosswords and the goslings came by to visit.

May 12, 2019 - The sun is shining

We were woken early this morning as a boat took off from in front of us with a sloshing and roaring. So we were ready to depart by 9.30am. The sun was shining and we headed for the locks. We've come across the top now and are going back down hill. As we approached the first lock it was a tight squeeze between the moored boats on both sides of the canal, but we made it. We tied up after 6 locks at Marsworth at the first available mooring. Put the wheel house back together and tidied up then had lunch and went for a walk. We spotted a...
