Oct 31, 2019 - Wellie workout

My wellies really got a working out today. We walked the tow path to check out the BRUCE TUNNEL - it's 3km ahead of us. Then we continued off the canal path into Burbage. The church is quite big, but not as spectacular as many of the other Churches we've seen. This one is twinned with Bendigo Cathedral, Victoria. While we were walking along a track to find our way back to the canal I spotted this car registration plate hanging on someone's fence. Another lovely thatched roof. We are definately in a more affluent part of the country...

Oct 30, 2019 - A busy day on the canal 51.359721, -1.6243384

I finally remembered to take my camera with me while opening a lock and guiding Tony through the bridge and gates. We were lucky here to have a couple of walkers who helped to close the gates for us. The majority of locks have very badly leaking gates, the maintenance crews won't possibly be able to fix them all this winter. We travelled through another 4 locks and are moored at Crofton pumping station almost at the summit. The village of Wilton is close by and we wandered across the fields into the village this afternoon. The crystal...

Oct 29, 2019 - A day out

We decided we need some wellies, so to get them we had to go back to Newbury to the shops, and to get there we had to play on the trains again. We killed 2 birds with one stone by taking the shopping trolleys and buying groceries too. The train was nice and clean with plenty of leg room. A bit pricey though at £6.30 each return (3 stations from here). We were both going to get the long legged wellies but then Tony spotted the short, fur lined pair of ladies boots so I got those. the long grass around the locks is very wet now and our shoes...

Oct 28, 2019 - Will Brexit ever happen?

We are just watching the news with the Brexit arguments happening between the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition!! What a schmozzle!!!! It's enough to make you want to put a bomb under them all. The local church is another large one, and very old. Our walk took us through the woods - on the lookout for bodies again! Some lovely berries and funghi, we followed a couple of Pheasants along the track for quite a long way. Could this be a Badger Sett?

Oct 27, 2019 - A touch of Frost

We awoke to a light dusting of frost on the canvas this morning. Daylight saving ended last night. We moved on to Great Bedwyn today as the sun was shining brightly after a miserable day of rain yesterday. Another rise of 27'8" over 5 locks. We were very lucky there was a mooring available close to town. We haven't been into the village as yet, instead our walk was a 7 km round trip to check on a friend's boat. Along the way we passed a pig farm with some seriously big pigs!
