Jun 19, 2006 - London Calling

Hey all, We are in London. We had a great flight from Uganda. I am in a Burger King at 11 PM. It has over 100 computers for web surfing. We are all doing well and spent the evening shoping at at a pub watching the World Cup. We are having a blast but it was sad leaving Africa. However, we are so excited to get home. We all miss our families very much. I am sorry I couldn't post more pictures during the trip. My laptop crashing has made it difficult. Blessings to all of you and we will be home tomorrow!! David, Jason, Danny, and...

Feb 11, 2006 - Keighley and the Chapmans

Well, what can I say about the Chapmans of Keighley ... hmmm ... 'unique' is probably the word. Neither Mark's dad nor his sister were quite what we'd expected. Although Mark is prone to a certain amount of exageration (no offence to anyone here) he doesn't even hold a candle to Jerry or Caroline. Some of the stuff coming out of the both of them, and there was a lot of it, had Justine and I in hysterics. One particular story about 10 year old bilberries, jam, melted kitchen pipes and pastry covered curtains, had us falling about for most of...

Nov 26, 2005 - Leeds - Tri Nations

Australian Pride is on the line!!! Its Tri Nations time of year and I got a phone call from Dan Oldknow asking if I wanted to go it didn't take me long to say yes. Dan, Cheree, and Myself cought the train up to Leeds to meet up with Kurt Rudder who lives up that way. We got into Leeds and made it to Kurts house, had a bite to eat and headed for the game. The crowd was 75% British but guess who they wanted to win?? Correct not Australia, it was New Zealand. We had great seats but I must admit to lose 24 or was it 28 nil wasn't the greatest...

Oct 25, 2005 - Random Thoughts and Useless Info!

This has by far been the best week since I've been in England. I haven't even traveled, but I'm just really feeling more at home. And as an added bonus, I got this new phone system so I can call the U.S. for SUPER CHEAP (more in a sec) so it makes me feel much more connected. Today's entry is mostly just randomness about British culture, my experiences, and fun facts. First, have to tell you about my cool phone service. It's called SKYPE and it is accessed over the internet. You have to have a broadband internet service, but I plug my...

Oct 8, 2005 - Short Version

Well, some of you are complaining that my entries are too long. So, 1) if you are illiterate and can't read that much or 2) you don't really care what I do and just read this to be polite.... then this entry is for you. For those of you who love me :) read the second entry as well! Basically, went to Haworth last weekend - 25 min. train ride; home of the Bronte sisters (you know, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre... oh yeah, all you illiterate people may have never heard of them). Cool town (see pics) very Old English with cute shops. Also,...

Oct 3, 2005 - London

Our friends Matt and Robin (whom we also sailed with in Croatia) graciously hosted us in Kingston (just outside London) and why I'll never know since they spent over four hours of their Saturday picking us up at some obscure airport outside London ('getting lost' time inclusive,) we did all of our laundry and hung it around their one bedroom apartment to dry, subjected them to a search of local camping stores for trekking gear on Sunday, monopolized their two laptop computers, made long distance calls to rectify a credit card problem and...

Mar 21, 2005 - Royal Armoury at Leeds pictures (01-29)

We spent this day at the Royal Armoury in Leeds, a military museum of high renown. This was our second trip to the museum. We missed some pictures we wanted to take last time. For more on the museum you can look at their page http://www.royalarmouries.org/ Also, many of the places we went have links on our other sites links page, and more will be added once I get the work for this quarter done. Just in case the address for our other page is http://academic.evergreen.edu/s/stelau06/ The pictures from this day may have limited interest for...

Jan 2, 2005 - Shipley

Today we set off for Shipley and our accommodation, the Marriott Hollins Hall Country Club which is situated quite close to the town of Shipley and also near to Leeds/Bradford Airport. This complex was fabulous and we had a room overlooking the town and grounds. The complex also features a leisure centre with swimming pool, gym, sauna and they also provide massages, aromatherapy treatments etc. Excellent venue.

Dot's Big OE 2004

Nov 24, 2003 - Ready for take off!

After many months of planning the day has finally arrived and we are stood poised at Heathrow ready for take off. A hectic weekend following our final days at work ended with the trip up to London on Sunday evening, but not before we enjoyed an early Christmas with the family. Presents were handed out before an emotional farewell. As we write this e-mail the feelings are of excitement, anticipation and uncertainty. Garry was particularly keen to make sure we didn't miss the flight. This was achieved comfortably, arriving 3 hours before they...
