Jul 16, 2008 - New Forest and South Downs
From the north Wales coast I’ll be heading south, past Cardiff, to the south coast of England. Why the south coast? Because you can’t say you’ve visited England properly until you’ve done two things, been to London and been to that great British institution, the seaside. The other reason is that, other than Cornwall, I haven’t really explored much of the south. I do come from Suffolk, but that’s part of the east coast, which is entirely different! I hear it’s a brilliant coastal walk but I haven’t really got time for that. Instead I will...Jump to full entry
Oct 14, 2006 - Back to the UK - down south
So, we decided to take the UK by storm, and do more things than even a tourist would attempt in a weekend. A flying visit to Essex, a night down Brick lane ( ticked the "must eat a proper curry' box) then a dash round Lakeside shopping centre with Joe (hairy - both Lakeside, and Joe), followed by a race to Basingstoke and Chilli con carne with Aidan and Michelle, and their cats. Sunday morning.... fry up.....DELISH (another 'must have' whilst in UK) and then we legged it to a beautiful country pub somewhere in Wiltshire and MORE food, this...Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2006 - Chawton and Oxford - Finally!
I miss having regular internet access soooo much! The program has been in Oxford since Saturday and this is the first time that I've been able to upload photos, so I apologize for the delay. On Friday my Jane Austen class took a trip to Winchester and Chawton to see where she lived, worked and died. Chawton was really beautiful and picturesque. Her home was also right down the lane from her older brother's much larger feudal estate, which is now a graduate study center for women's literature. I'm running out of weekends to do things, but I...Jump to full entry
Aug 2, 2006 - Windsor, England
"West Kensington - that's the one we want" urged Dad as we hurried through the underground passageways in search of the "tube" train that would take us out of London. Not that we didn't like London, but there were other things to see and do in England! We were headed for Heathrow Airport, where we would pick-up a rental car for a few days. On the way, however, we made a quick stop to drop off one of the cameras for a small repair job. Driving with the steering wheel on the right side of the car proved to be interesting. After hitting the...Jump to full entry
Jun 16, 2005 - Full Circle - Back in London!
Well, the nicest thing about being back in London, is that everyone speaks English! I just realized it had been nearly 40 days since I have been in a English speaking country! The weather was nice as I got back into England, I headed for my Hostel which was about a 25min tube ride from Waterloo Stn. That evening, I headed down town, and did a bit more walking around and last minute shopping before I turned in for the night. In the morining, I packed up my stuff, checked out, and headed for the airport! Back to Canada I was headed. Weirdly...Jump to full entry
Sep 29, 2004 - One week left to go
In exactly seven days, I am flying away. As may be expected, I am not ready. I haven't even tried to pack my bag yet. There is a strong belief that everything is best left until the last minute. If there isn't time to do something, then it probably isn't important. If there isn't time to buy somthing, then it isn't needed. I hope I'm right.Jump to full entry
