Jun 15, 2016 - Finally made it to Belfast, Ireland!

This is our first real entry on our blog. Hoping I can figure it out! We had a very long day/night of flying. It took us 17 hours in total to get to Belfast. None of us slept real great on the flight so we were pretty exhausted and a bit on the grumpy side when we finally arrived. We rented our car and then the real adventure began! In Ireland, the steering wheel is on the right side of the car and you drive on the left side of the road. The cars are manuals. The lanes are narrow. During the fifteen minute drive to our bed and breakfast, I...

Sep 23, 2010 - Carrickfergus Castle

@@@@@@@ BACKGROUND The massive castle that sits at the entrance to Belfast Lough was begun in AD 1180 by John de Courcy, the leader of the Anglo-Norman force that invaded Ulster after the defeat of the Viking settlements by the Norman forces in southern Ireland. Carrickfergus Castle grew atop a rocky crag overlooking the harbour and today it is one of the best-preserved Norman castles in Ireland. It was in continuous use up to 1928 though the castle changed hands many times over the centuries. Today, arms and armour are on display in the...

Jan 28, 2010 - Rea Family

Katrina, Kayla and I stayed with the Rea family. We had such an incredible time here. Mom and dad were so friendly and generous. We spent most nights chatting way past when we should have been in bed but they made us feel like family and we enjoyed spending time together so much! Dad actually works for Bobcat and had spent 3 weeks of training in Peoria, IL about 20 minutes from my house in Iowa. Chris was the oldest and spent most of his time watching sports or listening to loud music in his room when he wasn’t at work. Ashley was my age...

Jan 27, 2010 - Alex Dalzell

Singer songwriter this town was Alex. She was a beautiful girl who has a strong passion for music. Her song was about the beach and the many memories she had associated with that special place in her heart. Her voice was so angelic and the lyrics really made you want to go to the beach at that very moment. We spent a lot of time together getting to know each other! It was great spending time with you Alex!

Jan 27, 2010 - Terri

For the second town in a row my soloist in “If we hold on Together” has been incredibly special for me. Once again I began teaching my solo my introducing myself in sign language and once again she immediately signed her name back to my. Terri has a smile that lights up the room and you can just tell from the way she presents herself that she is an incredible person. Once I told her what her solo was she told me that her 22 year old sister was deaf. She told me that her sister has always been one of her inspirations as she has gone through...

Jan 25, 2010 - Carrickfergus

Four years ago I joined the Young Americans and became very close to a guy named Ryan. This week has been a very incredible week as I have checked off a goal of mine to visit his hometown here in Carrickfergus Ireland. The people are all so friendly and generous. I’ve seen the castle he always talked, about and the green rolling hills, and the coast line, all the things that I have imagined in my mind are now actual images. Getting to spend a few days with Ryan was incredible but the best part was to be back on the stage with him. In our...
