Aug 20, 2018 - London/Athens/Corfu to Milena (Gouvia Marina)

Early morning wake up call, and breakfast in the room, before catching my ride to the airport. (pic) The RITZ had arranged another “meet and greet” for me at the airport. Hearing of the fiasco yesterday, concierge Andy took extra care in arranging this ‘meet and greet’, and even put the hotel wheel chair in the car, along with one of the hotel trusted employees to make sure that all was going to be as it should be. Once we arrived at Heathrow, the limo driver said we were to look for somebody smartly dressed, in a white jacket. We found...

Aug 19, 2018 - London: a lazy day at the RITZ

Good Morning, and welcome to London. Today is my one and only full day in London. I decided to lay low, and do nothing. It is now almost dinner time, and I have done just that.... absolutely nothing but sleep and watch movies..... just what I need, a day of rest before 2 months of rest...... Golly that does sound odd even to me. One truly bazaar thing I have learned when ordering wheelchair assistance. It takes all of the control of your booking royally out of your hands. I tired for an hour, and the concierge for a half hour to get my...

Aug 18, 2018 - London, day #1 of 2 (RITZ London)

Good Morning. Well, I managed to sleep right thru the breakfast service, and woke up in time to watch our landing at Heathrow. I was thinking how relieved I felt that I had a wheel chair ordered for getting me to baggage re-claim, where a car and driver would be waiting to whisk me the 45-minute drive to the RITZ. This was going to be a system dealing between British Air and the RITZ London. Yes — all is good. If only it had happened like I thought, that would be perfect BUT, the ‘best laid plans....’ ...... (Unfortunately there are no...

Alarm set for 5.15am to get bags packed for pick up ready for our ferry & transfer to the airport. We got to bed quite early to get as much sleep as possible only for whoever is in the room above to stomp around with their proverbial hob nail boots on for at least half an hour, cheers for that!! Anyway, get up & all sorted. Had our breakfast and set ourselves for the 7.30 getaway. Ferry runs to timetable and the coach heads off to Vancouver Airport to drop off Jen & me. We wave them off for their Alaskan cruise. Our plane runs about 20...

Jul 8, 2018 - Our last day

Final check out and time to use for ourselves, leaving Vilnius for Brussels and then Heathrow leaving at 17:15, arriving London 21:35. Home James. Packed and left our luggage in secure room and walked off purposefully to the Jewish Museum and the Sam Bak exhibition. Both were very good: the former informative and well told in multiple languages in a light way with personal stories. The Sam Bak exhibition was quite a revelation. Born in 1933 and still alive, living in USA. He did some amazing paintings as a child / young man. His thinking...

Jul 2, 2018 - Hemel Hempstead.

We left East Grinstead and headed to meet some good friends from the Maserati Club for lunch at their house. We had a great time catching up with Roger and Sarah and it was as if we had never left. We then headed over to Hemel Hempstead to meet up with Graham and Sophie and their kids. A great evening as usual with a fantastic curry take out!

Jun 22, 2018 - On the move

Dear all, We flew into London and are staying with Paul's brother Phillip and wife Sue. The flight from Oslo gave us a few laughs. Paul kept setting off the security, 3 times, so he was chosen to go through the body scanner. Then when he got through they were holding his carry on bag. And had it open going through it, rescanning it and then handed everything back to him in a tray and he had to repacked it. I set the alarm off because the blouse I was wearing had glass studd decorations. Had a nice rest in the lounge then realised that we...

Our Big Trip

May 19, 2018 - Last day - London

Got to sleep in yeah! Then headed to Westminster Abbey. Got there about 9.30 and was surprised that it wasn’t too busy. These days they have a self guided tour with a hand held device. I really enjoyed it. Then off on a long walk up to Knightsbridge to visit Harrods and Hyde Park. Bought a nice salad box to eat, in Harrods, and sat in the Park, in the sunshine. Back to pack and now I am sitting waiting to board the plane at 1015. Another trip over but it has been full of variety and I have really enjoyed it. Signing off!

May 6, 2018 - London Town stories

Thursday night and Friday: 3 and 4 May Well, here we go. London look out because we’re on our way. Our Qatar flight on a A380 left Perth on time and arrived a little early in Doha the next morning. The champers was good to start with and we both managed to get a reasonable amount of sleep. When we got to Doha we only had about 50 minutes to get to our next flight, and if you know Doha Airport you’ll know 50 minutes cutting it fine to get from one terminal to another, so we were fortunate we were met by a Qatar rep and escorted all the way...

May 5, 2018 - Time to go home, Jet Lag and Laundry

Got up at 2:15 AM to make the 3:15 bus time to the airport. Checked in and hung out in the British Airways business class lounge until time to head to the gate. Our 11 hour flight home was uneventful. No turbulence. We had business class seats, so room to stretch out. The plane route was across Iceland and through Canada. Must be faster to fly over the top of the world. Immigration in LA was fast and mostly self service. All our worries about paying customs duty on all the stuff we bought, went for not as the guy just waved us through and...
