Jun 30, 2015 - Kendal to Lancaster
Sleep in! A short day today and a 12pm check-out, perfect! We strolled about Kendal, checked out the Castle ruins and replaced my back wheel. I broke a second spoke coming out of Glasgow. This was first village to have a bike shop. Decided to get a sturdier wheel rather than risk more broken spokes. After checking out, we sat by the river Kent in the middle of the village and had lunch. A hot and humid day! We pondered the short ride to Lancaster. We were still pretty shattered by yesterday's ride. Dylan commented 'it was like riding The...Jump to full entry

Aug 21, 2010 - The weekend come, the rain goes
My train ride to pick up the hire car in Swindon was pleasant with a book (the girl with the dragon tattoo) Without much drama I made my way to Lancashire and booked into my delightful self contained room at a BnB/stables. What I pleasure to have my place cleaned each week. Work- there is a mixed and isolated team in the Ormskirk division. I forget quickly how much there is to learn in a different environment. However people are kind enough to repeat the same directions to me a second or third time. Treating new born's scares me immensely....Jump to full entry

Jun 24, 2007 - Home again!
Sunday 24th. June 2007: We had a fantastic time in Bodrum and it was now time to return home again. The weather has been extreamly hot all week and yesterday our last day in Turkey the temperature soared to over 41 degrees. We were sat outside our villa with the breeze blowing over us like a hair dryer on double heat! - You could not stay long in it before either retreating indoors or swimming in our pool. Carol had wanted a final snorkel at the beach and after an hour there - sheltering most of the time under parasols we retreated back to...Jump to full entry
Apr 28, 2007 - More walks in the hills
Sanda is not happy unless she has doen a hiil or mountain each day so we stopped at Glen coe on our way back to England for a bit of a walk up a mountain. Again it was a well chosen path in brilliant sunshine with great views. Lunch in the sun watching some birds and rock climbers. That rock climbing is definitely not for me and I tried not to think of Dean doing such things..it is too scary. I did have a bit of a trip coming down but was caught by Mel under the supervision of Sandra who was crouched down having a wee at the time. I only...Jump to full entry
Mar 19, 2007 - Final day in Clare
Monday 19th. March 2007 Our last day today before heading back to Dublin so we decided to re-visit Mulluchamore in the east of the Burren. We were late arriving due to a need to find an ATM first to pay our debts, and then arriving on the wrong side of the mountain (scenic route I said!) A quick dash up the hill was enjoyed by all as the weather had eased somewhat - a few photoes and then we headed for Gort and a pub lunch. We said our goodbyes to our Irish friends till the autumn and then headed east to Dublin. Another excellent meal with...Jump to full entry
Mar 13, 2007 - Lancaster
Lancaster On Tuesday morning I took the train to Victoria Coach Station then had a 7 hour bus ride to Lancaster. After getting out of London we were on the motorway all the way zooming through the English countryside. It was just as I had imagined, green fields dotted with villages full of brick or stone houses. The bus arrived 10 minutes early and I was greeted warmly by Mel and Sandra. I had met them in Nepal last year and had traveled through Tibet with them so we had some catching up to do over a good dinner. The next day they took me...Jump to full entry

Sep 3, 2006 - Day Trip to Blackpool
We took the train to Blackpool this morning. We left at about 11:30AM and arrived at 1:30PM. The weather looked like it was going to be a dark and rainy day but about 30 minutes after we got there the clouds cleared up and the sun came out. So did all the people. This place was very crowded. We walked up and down the pramenade. We visited Central Peir and North Peir. On the beach they have donkey rides for the kids. At the Central Peir there is a large feris wheel and I took a ride. Deb is afraid of heights so she waited for me. After the...Jump to full entry
Jul 26, 2006 - Buttermere, Lakes District
This is our 2nd day in the Lakes District of England, which is incredibly beautiful. Were staying in a small town called Buttermere, about 8 miles south of Keswick, in a youth hostal. It's pretty spartan, but the only place we could find, as everything is booked because of an annual religuous convention. Buttermere is pretty small, only a few restuarants, Inns and lot's of sheep. Today we drove to keswick, which is one of the largest towns in the Lakes District, a cool little town, but very crowded and touristy. We had intended to stay here...Jump to full entry
