Feb 7, 2013 - Rawai Beach Resort, Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, Thailand Thursday February 7, 2013 Last day of G. Start of a new adventure Hopefully this is the last day of having to get up so early. We were up at 5:30 to pack for the flight, get an envelope made up of three currencies, Kip, Dong and Dollars for Andy, and have breakfast before our taxi ride to the airport. Breakfast was mediocre but at least the wi-fi is working downstairs. Very slowly but working. I can't pull up our flight to Phuket so we will find out about it when we get to the airport. Have I said enough how much I dislike...

Jan 4, 2013 - Thailand Journey Trips Manual: Probably the most Fantastic Sites within Thailand

Reputed for the varied tastes as well as appealing local repas, Thailand is really a gorgeous jewel, packed with cooking elegance as well as treats. Right here, there are many delicious options along with a wonderful variety of meals in order to treat your own taste buds, through hot and spicy curries as well as succulent barbequed pig in order to refreshing large prawns as well as hay mushrooms. To get more daring predators, amazing hand meals, for example deep-fried beetles as well as roasting crickets tend to be offered in the state's...

Jan 2, 2013 - Visited Cave and Waterfall

Imagine a cave about 600 metres long that has a river running through it where you have to take a canoe, followed by a bamboo raft, and then for the last 300 metres you splash through ankle deep water to view marvellous multicoloured limestone stalagmites and stalactites. That is Pung-Chang cave in Phang-Nga province near Phuket. It was not possible to take photos in the cave so take a look at the following link and you will get an idea what it was like. VisitPung-ChangCave Quite stunning particularly if you have not seen a limestone cave...

Jan 1, 2013 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from Phuket! We saw the New Year in on Patong Beach where the whole beach in a huge bay is taken up with revellers, Chinese lanterns, DJs playing very loudly, fireworks etc all of which goes on for hours before and hours after midnight. Boats moor in the bay to watch the celebrations and even a cruise ship was in watching but moved on after about 1am. Bangla Road nearby to the beach, which we visited on 30th and again last night, is a mix of bars, music, and pole dancers along with seedy shows that they try to entice you in...

Dec 30, 2012 - New Years Festival in Phuket

Koh Phangnan was meant to be my last party session but having been told of a 2 day festival in Phuket, with a floating stage in the sea and the likes of Basement Jaxx, Pendulum, Kanye West, LMFAO and loads of others playing till the early hours of the morning… I couldn’t say no. I met up with Ollie and his Girlfriend Sarah and headed over there where Matt, Lisa and Will would join us in a couple of days. We stayed on Patong Beach… what a party sh..t hole. I stayed in a very good hostel right in the centre of Bangla Road, party sh..t hole...

Dec 29, 2012 - Phuket

We have been getting comments that it was about time we posted another blog page so here goes. So what have we been up to over the last few days? We have spent time on some lovely beaches in Phuket and on the islands off the coast courtesy of Nico's boat and yesterday we drove up to the coast north of Khao Lak where we had miles of sandy beach almost to ourselves and could swim in the Andaman Sea. Angelica loved this as it reminded her so of her childhood holidays on the Kenyan coast and is of course part of the Indian Ocean which she loves...

Dec 24, 2012 - Now in Phuket

An early start, a boat trip to the mainland and a rather haphazard transfer by coach and two minibuses across to Phuket today to stay with Angelica's brother, Nico and sister in law, Jutta. We will be staying here for Christmas and probably into the New Year. A Happy Christmas to everyone!

Dec 2, 2012 - Phuket

Sunday 2nd Dec 2012 Centara Beach Resort Phuket, Thailand Well, we're here! Arrived late last night to a tropical storm - very hot, thunder lightening and rain rain rain which continued through the night til 11am this morning. We had a lovely welcome from very friendly Thai staff. Cruz took us to our room on a buggy - much to Henry's delight. He promised Henry another ride on it tonight.  Our room is lovely and spacious with views over the pool and if you squint hard enough you can see the sea through the trees. Henry had a temperature on...

Nov 9, 2012 - First Island Stop - Phuket Party Town

It was dark by the time we got to Phuket, Amber is going to a Yoga retreat but had 3 days spare so came to Patong with me except she stayed in an amazing hotel and I went to Patong Backpackers hostel! The taxi dropped me at one end of the Bangla strip (the big party road) and the hostel was right at the other end so I had to walk the whole way down the street with my massive rucksack and my backpack, sweating buckets! I was minding my own business checking out the bars when out of nowhere the man put the hugest Iguana I have ever seen on...

Aug 12, 2012 - Phuket - Day 3 - Surfing!

Today was our last day! We managed to sleep in a little and go to breakfast at 8:30am. This was a terrible decision. The whole resort was out and there were crazy little rug rats everywhere! Also all the good food was picked over so we had to settle for less than crispy, "crispy" bacon! After breakfast we got into our gear and headed to Kata beach. About a 10 minute walk later we were there and scouring the beach for some surf lessons. We found a couple of good places but in the end decided on this one american guy that talked us into his...

Aug 11, 2012 - Phuket Day 3 - Elephant Trekking and Phuket City

Our last full day in Phuket was quite a busy one! We were up early, as usual, to go elephant trekking. It was an interesting experience. We've learned that Laura really likes to see the animals up close but does not like to touch them. Our first visit was with two baby elephants that were still the size of a small car. They took pictures with us and as we were trying to get a picture they put their trunks around us to hug us. This did not work well for Laura! She was not interested in any hugs! We got a few great shots then went around to...

Aug 10, 2012 - Phuket Day 2 - Sea Kayaking

On our second day in phuket we decided to book a tour to some of the other islands to sea kayak. We got picked up at our hotel around noon and headed out to a marina where the excursion started. We drove out to the end of the peer, loaded the double decker boat, along with 20 other people, and headed out to our first island. I don't think we quite realized what this adventure would entail. They first served us a traditional thai style lunch on our way to the island. It was delicious. Local guides come out to our boat on a traditional thai...
