Apr 27, 2015 - Phuket - Thailand

Arrival was nightmare. Didn't get the stroller at the airplane. Hugeeeee line at immigration, matteus crying cause he was sleeping... An angel showed up and managed to bring me to special immigration. Luggage was broken... Good part started with the taxi service from the hotel. It was fresh, clean, an oasis. Had some sleep and met Carla Danny and the kids at the swimming pool. After we headed to the beach club in Surin. What a lovely time. Drinks, massage, sun bath, jump in the sea!

Nov 14, 2014 - Day 20 - Resting in our hotel

John writing: We spent one night at the Avista Resort prior to going on our sea kayak trip. After the kayak trip we returned to the Avista Resort and found this in our hotel room. See Photos. I would like to get used to this level of service! Today we spent the day hanging out at the hotel, enjoying the air conditioned room with good internet, and a beautiful pool. I thought about going to the place that lets you go into an enclosure to play with tigers both large and small, but I would have had to spend several hours in the heat and...

Nov 13, 2014 - Days 17-19 Kayaking in Phang Nga Bay

Day 17-19 Sea Kayaking Phang Nga Bay Lois writing now Last summer, when we were planning this trip to Southeast Asia, John went looking for an outfitter here in Thailand that would have offer a tour, using sea kayaks similar to the ones we are used to paddling (not fat clunky sit-on-tops). We were looking for a trip that would suit our experience and interests, and would take us away from crowds. He chose Paddle Asia for a 3 day tour in Phang Nga Bay (pronounced Ponga Bay). It was a great choice! We spent the days in kayaks, with our guide...

Nov 10, 2014 - Days 15-16 Saigon-Bangkok-Phuket

John writing now: Sunday, our guide Duong, had made arrangements for us to have lunch with Tiger, the guide I had in 2011. When Tiger showed up, it turns out it was another Tiger. When I showed Duong a photo of my Tiger, she knew him also, and in fact had recommended him to her boss for a guiding position. We went out to lunch with Pattie, a member of our tour group from Buffalo NY. Pattie was a special ed teacher who had taught in a jail during part of her career. The stories she told us were hilarious. My favorite one involved two of her...

Sep 15, 2014 - Phuket - Scared Shipless

Today was the most terrifying day of my life. It rained all night, and the power shut off. the flooding was even worse on the streets of Phi Phi, having to jungle gym around gigantic puddles to get to the pier. It was going to be a 2 hour trip to Phuket. I went to the bottom deck and did some reading, nothing huge; the boat started moving out of the bay. About 10 minutes off shore, within 30 seconds things turned downright horrifying. A *CRASH* then screaming, and as I look out my small window..only water, then sky, then water again. It...

Aug 23, 2014 - Phuket

Stepping off the plane, I noticed the change in temperature, and the locals greeting me, and bantering on. Once I passed through security, I got a car to my Hotel, where I settled in and dove straight in the pool! It is so beautiful and the beach was right outside my hotel

My Amazng Adventure

Mar 31, 2014 - Phuket

Our next port of call was Phuket in Thailand. We were some distance from the town so decided to make it a beach day and just relax amongst the palm trees. Our friends who we met on board had stayed at a small hotel resort nearby so we decided to try and use their beach. First problem was to get a taxi at an affordable price. When we left the port gate we were confronted with fifteen or so drivers shouting prices at us from $15 to $30. The problem was soon solved by offering $12 to the first driver who said yes. We walked through the hotel...

Mar 23, 2014 - Phuket: Kata Beach y Kamala Beach

Mar 10, 2014 - Patong Bay, Thailand

3/10 – 3/11 After one sea day and 644 miles we sailed into Patong Bay, Thailand. We spent a couple of hours walking around the small town on the bay. They had beautiful beaches along the bay. The town of Phuket was a taxi ride away so we decided not to make the trip.

Jan 20, 2014 - Winter Break

A new year, a new life in Cambodia I resigned from my overseas “dream job” effective Dec. 20. This school, which in concept is a truly beautiful idea, turned out to be more of a nightmare than a dream. To leave a class of such wonderful, deserving children mid-year was not something that I could ever have imagined doing. However the working conditions were too unreasonable to bear and after many conversations with the directors I felt I was left with little option. Since leaving I am sleeping every night, my family enjoys my company – well,...

Dec 19, 2013 - Last Full Day in Phuket....

Hello all, Yesterday was my last full day in Phuket, and unexpectedly, it was quite a FULL day. More on this later. Today I head back to Chiang Mai, and tomorrow I start my long journey back to the states. Needless to say, I will likely be sleeping most of the day on Xmas. It will take my mind and body between 3-5 days to get back on track. Tylar already knows that the meal of the day on Xmas will likely be Little Ceasars pizza. As for my unexpected full day, I went zooming around the southern part of the city on the back of Roberto's...

Dec 18, 2013 - My Journey

In Bali I met a hilariously sarcastic wise lady, that's you Anthea! Over breakfast one morning I was complaining about some peers who stayed out drinking all night and bailed on the volunteer work the next morning. Anthea just looked at me and said you cant judge others because everyone is on there own individual journey. I didn't think too much about it at the time but as I have ventured around this winter there have been many times when I've been annoyed, envious, or frustrated with others and Anthea's words have run through my mind....
