Mar 21, 2006 - Fun with Fasts

Its been awhile since I have written anything. This is mostly because I didn't know how to explain what I've been up to. You will probably think I'm crazy (not that most of you don't already think that!) Intrigued? Well, read on... After 6 months on the road, I was definitely in need of R & R. So when in Asia the most obvious place to go would be the beaches of Southern Thailand. So March found me on the island of KoPhaNgan. But not one to do anything half-way or the usual way - my beach experience was not typical. I found myself spending...

Feb 16, 2006 - Ko Pha-Ngan (Full Moon Party)

PARTY PARTY PARTY!!! This is the major attraction on Ko Pha-Ngan, especially given the full moon party was being staged two days after I arrived. I stayed 5 minutes away from the beach and focus point of the island, Had Rin. This is where the full moon party is held. I stayed in a hotel called My Palace with two Finnish girls I met on the bus from the ferry station which was good because its cheaper to not stay in single rooms where possible. Also bumped into some Ozzies from melbourne (affectionately refer to me as either monkey or wayne...

Dec 15, 2005 - Tragedy on Haad Rin

I was up bright and early this morning to get all packed up and have brekkie before making the trek back into town and to the pier. While I was eating breakfast the couple next to me noticed the Canadian flag on my backpack and it ended up that they were from Montreal. Even more bizarre was that the guy knew of Havre Boucher! He had lived in Halifax for 20 years and travelled all over the province and for some strange reason knew Havre Boucher. I couldn't believe it! Anyways, we had a huge chat and they were super cool. He was telling me...

Sep 20, 2005 - Koh Phangnan

Sorry I'm writing this one a little after the fact. I've gotten a little behind but I'll try and catch you up... Koh Phangnag was a lot of fun. We arrived here on the morning of the 18th. Luckily we arrived in the morning, because if we had arrived any later I'm not sure we would have gotten a room. We found a decent hotel with A/C and hot water, right before the island was completely filled with rowdy 20-somethings from around the globe ready for the largest party that Jen, Luke or myself had ever been to. Koh Phangnan is "Party Island" to...

Sep 18, 2005 - Full Moon Party

Koh Phangan, we are now north of Koh Samui on an even smaller island. The first two days we were here, they were working on the power cable from the mainland, and cut off power to the island for 2 days. That is island living. Some stores got buy with candles, while others must be used to it because they had genrators running. One day we took a boat trip around the island and swam in a lucky waterfall. It must have worked because that night the power turned back on. The main reason we were here was for the monthly full moon party. Every...

Aug 31, 2005 - Koh Phangan

(click 'show all 5' to display all photos and double click photo to see a bigger version) I got the last seat on the bus in Bangkok, and chatted with my bus buddy from Israel as we got progressively wet. She was the first on the bus and was sure she had the best seat going...she hadn't appreciated the impact of leaky air con. More entertaining was the DIY fixing job that followed involving plastic bags to catch the water and umbrellas...and eventually dry air con. My first stop in the Southern Thai islands was the location of the Full Moon...

May 24, 2005 - Ko Phangan - Full Moon Party and mopeds

The three of us (Gregg, Andrew, and Carrie) woke up early on the 22nd to check out of the less-than-fabulous AC Resort and catch the ferry from Ko Tao over to the middle island - Ko Phangan. We were concerned about not being able to find a place to stay as the Full Moon Party was the next night and many people flock to the island for the massive beach party. No reason for concern, as we were bombarded by offers when we disembarked from the boat. We settled upon Charm Beach Resort (again, a liberal use of the word "Resort"). Our new home was...

May 22, 2005 - Koh Phangan

Sunday 22nd May Had two hours sleep by the time I had stopped arseing about in my towel, so went to the opposite hut to mine and Doms where the Germans Lisa and Ines were staying and woke them up. Had to make sure they were coming with us, you know. So said Au revoir again to all the lads and lasses from Charlies and managaed to make the 1 o'clock boat to Koh Phangan with Dom, Lisa, Ines, Greg and myself. The boat pulled up at Hat Rin which is one of the beaches where the full moon party goes down and we said goodbye to Greg who was off to...

May 15, 2005 - Koh Pha-ngan

Koh Pha-ngan what can we say, we were meant to stay for 3 days, and stayed 8!! By day we lazed on the beach, swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the view! By night we found the beach can alive until sunrise, which we were able to experience with the aid for Thai buckets!! (Thai buckets are whiskey, coke and strong redbull in a bucket!!). These buckets also made men realise we were the most beautiful women on the beach by 2am! Through this we met alot of people from around the globe, mainly Ireland, Texas and Israel! Clare didnt realise Israel...

Mar 23, 2005 - Haad Rin, Koh Phagnan

Wow! What a difference. I was wondering where all these other backpackers were!.. Koh Phagnan is sexy. The beach is beautiful, the place is far less developed than Samui. Most of the property still seems to be owned by Thais aswell, not too sure how long that will last though. Loud musicand films playing in the bars all day, and theyre open till like 5 am aswell. Interesting being able to order a steak at 3 in the morning. Its very laid back. Went to see some Thai boxing last night which was great. Met some other guys, Immy (who happens to...

Dec 22, 2004 - Ko Pha Ngan

Jul 24, 2004 - Thousand Island Dressing

Just spent 4 nights on Bottle Beach on Ko Phangan. Beautiful, and so chilled out. We took a boat from Ko Samui and jumped on the back of a van and eventually managed to get a water taxi to take us over to the bay. It was good to get away from Costa del Ko Samui to be honest, we had started to feel old surrounded by 19 year olds on their year out. Bottle Beach was fab, we had a bungalow right on the beach again (a bit more expensive at 4 pounds a night though). There was a real community feel to the place and we met some really interesting...
