Jun 20, 2019 - Barcelona & Valencia

We spent a few days in Santiago to relax after the Camino then we moved on to Barcelona. Our boutique hotel was located in the Gotic area of the city. We were greeted with a glass of Cava upon our arrival at 10 am in the morning. The hotel was in a great location and had numerous features such as a workout facility, roof-top lounge, pool and a great restaurant for breakfast each morning. The surrounding Gotic area is home to numerous local artists who have small shops and sell authentic merchandise. It has a similar feel to the SOHO area in...

May 15, 2019 - Lleida

15 May – Wednesday It is great that check out over here tends to be a bit later, none of this out by 10, it is often 11am or noon, so we are not under too much pressure to leave. Today is noon, so we can relax a bit, until we head for the bus. Breakfast was a lot more relaxed too, we were not rushed like yesterday. The bus is not in when we arrive at the station, but we are early. There is no platform indicator on the board, so Tony heads off to the buses parked up, the drivers tell him to ask at the office (the one that was empty when Tony...

May 10, 2019 - Barcelona (don't mention Liverpool, Barca lost!)

10 May – Friday Another big breakfast to keep us going for the day. Today we head to the gothic quarter for a “free” guided tour, we need to take the metro to get there, and the hostel crew tell us to get a T-10 ticket. Good for ten trips, only €11 ($18), and even better, we can share the ticket, just pass it back after the first one goes through. It works out that each trip is less than half the price of a single trip ticket, so worthwhile getting. Watching a few people, it seems that they are not too concerned who has a ticket or not, and...

May 8, 2019 - Espana!

08 May – Wednesday Our Lufthansa flight in an A330-300 to Barcelona will transit at Frankfurt, and we have a window seat. The seven hour flight leaves at 1am, arrives at 7am. Pillows and blankets are issued, but for now it is warm enough. The first challenge is the headphones. We look everywhere to find where to plug in the double pin audio plug, and can only see a single one to use. The trick was that one of the pins folds back, there is even a wee diagram on the plug, black on black, and at 1am bloody hard to see! It is difficult to sleep...

Apr 18, 2019 - All aboard Captain

Today we went the grocery store and purchased 2 oranges and a couple of donuts. All produce must be weighted and a sticker attached before you go to the checkout. If you don’t a woman chases after you and motions you to return to the produce dept. for said sticker. No bags are ever handed out so you must carry items free form. Best oranges I have ever had. Six other couples were in the lobby waiting for cabs to the ship terminal. All Aussies and Brits. An elderly couple appeared from the US who were returning to their ship to continue a 285...

Apr 17, 2019 - Barcelona You Surprise me

12 hours of sleep has recharged us. We got our directions to walk to city center and catch the Hop On-Off Bus Touristic. 6 city blocks from the hotel with things to gauze at in every direction. Every building has apartments on top, retail on the bottom. Old, new, with balcony’s and without, dramatic styling, or old and flat it was stunning to take it all in. By using our human built in GPS we found the buses. The real problem was the temperature, 54 degrees and windy. With hoods pulled up, jackets zippered, head phones on we toured...

Apr 16, 2019 - Hell of a day!

We arrived at the Airport after our van transport picked up 7 other people from all over the Villagers. Van time 2hrs 20 minutes. The Orlando Airport is filled with sun fried passengers and a good mix of princesses and wizards with an excessive amount of light sabers. Everyone seems to be wearing that last outfit which is still clean but a mis-match. They have been to the happiest place on earth....Disney......and the children are just starting to realize, it’s over! And they must take that L.....O.....N.....G plane ride home. Our flight...

Mar 31, 2019 - Last Day in Barcelona

We had great plans for our last day in Barcelona which started off with an early start to Park Guell, the park designed by Gaudi with among other things wild mosaic sculptures. But our neighbors had other plans and started partying around midnight and it went on until 4 a.m. when we finally got to sleep. We thought we had gotten up at 8:30 but it turns out Spain went into daylight savings time overnight and it was now 9:30. So much for an early start. And it turns out the park is under renovation and all the mosaic sculptures are covered up...

Mar 30, 2019 - La Pedrera and Barri Gotic

March 30 - Gaudi’s La Pedrera and the Hunt for the Royal Palace After a rather late breakfast and having purchased two anytime tickets for La Pedrera (Casa Mila) we headed off to find the house. We had purchased tickets online that were good for 6 months and any time as opposed to timed entry. The tickets were a little more expensive but worth it as it allowed us immediate entry. The building also known as Casa Mila was built by Gaudi for the Mila family in 1905. We went directly to the roof which has six skylights/staircase exits,...

Mar 29, 2019 - Sagrada Familia

Started the day at the local police station to file a police report in case my insurance will cover my phones. They had forms in English so obviously I'm not the only one who has had this happen. They stamped and logged the report and sent me on my way. Next stop was to a shop on the corner where they had purses and wallets on sale so I got a good bargain there. And finally we went to the Orange cell phone store to get a sim card. Judi and I had brought our old phones to use while in Spain and Portugal which is why I had 2 phones in my...

Mar 28, 2019 - Barcelona Day 1

March 28 - Barcelona Our first full day in Barcelona , our plan was to stock the kitchen, find the TI in Placa de Catalunya and do the HOHO (hop-on, hop-off) bus to acquaint ourselves with the city. We got to the local market too early (they open at 9) so we wandered around the neighborhood. Returning to the market just as they were attempting to open - the automatic doors were not cooperating and would only open a couple of inches. After several attempts, finally the women were successful. With bags of supplies we were ready to settle in...

Mar 26, 2019 - Off We Go Again

Judi and I are off again on another adventure. This time we are heading to Spain and Portugal, starting in Barcelona. We flew to London and then on to Barcelona. The first flight was great. We had bulkhead seats and we could stretch our legs completely out. But American really does have lousy food. On the second flight our knees hit the seat in front of us and we ended up in the back of the airplane with a middle and window seat. The flight was only two hours so not too bad. Judi C. had arranged for Miguel to pick us up at the airport and...
