Late on Saturday morning we left in light drizzle which soon cleared and drove through the Algarve scenery to Camping Turiscampo (N37°6'5" W8°43'56") in Luz, near Lagos. This is a large campsite with wonderful bathrooms and many other facilities. The charge was €16 per night (ACSI rate); WiFi was €3 a day extra. We soon found Sandy and Don, who we first met in Torremolinos, and set up near them. Glenn and Albertine were not far behind us. We had a relaxing afternoon and later all met up in Don and Sandy’s awning. There were eight of us...

Dec 21, 2012 - Merry Christmas, Sunshine and fish & chips

We spent a week camped close to the capital of Portugal – Lisbon. This was an ideal base to visit the capital, other coastal towns and the World Heritage Site of Sintra in the hills. Lisbon was in many ways a little disappointing; maybe we had expected too much or maybe we are a bit “travelled out”. The old quarter, the Alfama, was fascinating with narrow and confusing lanes. Historic tram 28 was a riot as it climbed impossible hills and hurtled around blind corners, and Belem with all the maritime history and the Monastery of Saint Jerome...
