Dec 7, 2004 - Managua, Nicaragua... Not quite Central America

Lonely Planet warned us that Managua bus terminal was packed with pickpockets. Apart from a small crowd of touts around the bus station compound, I thought that it didn´t look too bad. So Zara and I went in search of an ATM, as we both had no local currency, and there should be one two blocks away. When we couldn´t find it, we asked a couple of policemen for directions. Their response was, "Why are you walking?! Take a taxi!!" and also that it was so dangerous by the ATM it´s not worth going. Grrreat! So we sat in the refuge of the Tica Bus...

Jul 10, 2004 - Granada

This is the royal city of Nicaragua. Evryone reports on how beautiful it is. I agree, although it can´t compete with Europe for beautiful cities, it does have its charms. The architecture is colonial and the plazas are hge leafy numbers. The best thing about Granada however, is the people and the atmosphere. They are all crazy and quite puhy if trying to sell you something, but they are colourful and they are quite friendly. The Bearded Monkey Hostal is a classic- Legendary- and it would be quite easy to stay there and never leave. In fact...

Jun 25, 2004 - San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Well folks, we´ve found our spot. The constant travel and racking up of mileage is over. San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua is our new home. Lake Nicaragua, just to the east, causes a constant offshore flow that leaves almost contant sun and perfect temperatures. The offshore breeze leaves waves perfect all day long. It has great surf, lots of girls, fun nightlife and great people. We have a killer 3 bedroom house for $100 a month each with kitchen, cable, etc. Huge, incredible meals for $1.50. What more do we need? Its the ¨Pura Vida¨ life here...

Jan 15, 2004 - Managua

January 15, 2004 Managua We are enjoying the pool and the lovely staff here at the Best Western. After brunch and a swim we got dressed to go in to the big town to have our breaks looked at. Roger has given us the name of a shop and the front desk lady gave us directions so off in the big brown bull into town. The shop is ready to help us and off the tires come in a matter of minutes and they say if a few hours it will be finished. The kids and I play cards and Nathan over sees the work. Sure enough, Nathan was right, our whole disk...
