After receiving a text message from our good friends Rob and Donna Reid we organised to have breakfast with them. Along with Mum and Dad, my brother Mark and the Reid’s we went to the Lyndale Centre and had quite a nice morning and breakfast there. About 1130ish we loaded ourselves in the camper and finally headed off on our trip. We pointed ourselves north and headed up towards Taranaki. Apr 29, 2008 - Raukawa Falls to Patea North Island 12 to 13 April 2008

Jeff Our YMCA outdoor adventure camp site is in a beautiful very remote area. We joined the SH4 at Raetihi almost 24 miles north of us, and this morning we will travel the same distance south down the gorge. The road follows the path of the Mangawhero River and takes us over high hills, alongside gorges, and across valleys. Soon after joining the road last evening we came across a road sign informing that ‘Washouts’ had occurred for the next 50 miles and to take care.
