We went to Oamaru. On the way we stopped at Moeraki and saw some amazing huge round bolders on the beach that had been formed over a million years ago!! A million - thats along time ago. They were pretty cool!! At Oamaru we're hoping to see some wild life considering our last attempt was useless. Nov 30, 2004 - Oamaru

Next stop Oamaru to see the colony of Little Blue penguins, we had to wait in the freezing cold until about 9pm to see the little guys, but it was worth it as about 150 of them waddled back into their nesting boxes right in front of us. Penguins are now our favourite bird! We also checked out a beach where the very rare yellow eyed penguins live. We saw a couple from a distance, trouble is there weren't many there at the time cos a lot of the chicks have died of a mystery disease.

JG: Went to watch the Little, Blue or Fairy Penguins come home to their nests at dusk. They are so tiny and so cute. 62 of them flipped themselves out of the sea and up some rocks in front of us towards their nest. On our way out we found one that had slightly lost it's way and ended up at the edge of the car park. Very, very cute!!!

On to Oamaru where we stayed the night at the Brydone Hotel - oldest place we've stayed at and it was very comfortable. Met a boy in the lounge after dinner and he took me for a drive round Oamaru and...
