Heading inland from Westport, the road follows the Buller River through to Murchison. On the way, we stopped at the Buller Gorge swing-bridge, the longest swing-bridge in New Zealand. The bridge is 110m long and leads to the White Creek Fault line which was the epicentre of a big earthquake in 1929. There were very few tourists that day and the operator of the tension line called the Flying Fox (strapped to a wire and slide hands free) tried to convince us to pay more for an alternative way to cross the river.
