After a good sleep I felt much better this morning. We had decided to drive along the Lost Highway to Stratford and Mount Taranaki. It was an interesting, although long journey with some interesting animal characters along the way, wandering into the road. We stopped in Whangamomona to swap driving. It is the weirdest place which claims to have it's own president and that you need a passport to visit it. Apparently it claimed its independence at some point and elected various animals, including a poodle and goat to be the president!...

Aug 8, 2007 - Leaving home

Wow, what a chilly morning, but so nice and fine, only took half an hour to fly to Auckland. It was fine there as well. Had to kill a few hours in duty free but didn't buy, then we were off on a 767. Seemed to take forever to get to Sydney, nice day there as well. Not too long at Sydney then off in the big bird 747. The sun had just set but not so quick that we missed the sights.
