Renee, who is my friend from work, and I left Auckland city for a road trip to Pakiri on Friday night. Pakiri is on the East coast, about two hours North of Auckland. We booked ourselves in for a night in a cabin at the camp site which sits right on the beach front. Mar 5, 2006 - Wellsford & Taupo Bay, New Zealand

Taupo Bay, North Island, New Zealand On our way down to Auckland from Cape Reinga, we stopped at a lovely quiet bay 13km of the main highway called Taupo Bay. Here, we checked into a holiday park and double cabin for the night which was a reasonable $55 (20 pounds) for the night. That evening we cooked a nice dinner in our cabion kitchen and discussed where we wanted to head over the next week and how long we would stay in each place.
