Nov 11, 2009 - abel tasman national park

Nov 8, 2009 - Whale, Dragons and Birds

Well it has certainly been an adventurous week. ! I started off in Hanmer Springs a relaxed little spa resort which has natural springs just under a range of mountains that rise to 1500m. The weather was perfect, the day I arrived and the campsite just out of town was very relaxing. It also gave me the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy my first home cooked meal. The dish was pasta with a meat sauce as the next day I had planned my first mountain bike trip. The weather the following day started quite cool and after renting a Specialized...

Jul 8, 2009 - Abel Tasman National Park

What an excellent day treking, thats 3 day treks in four days and I loved every one of them. I'm heading up to the top of the South Island before heading down Christchurch way and this part of the island sees to have more than its fair share of trekking opportunities. The trek through the Abel Tasman National Park is the most popular in NZ with around 185,000 visitors annually and its popularity is due to the number of bays and beaches that are easily reached en route, so our excellent boat driver informed us. Today was just a day trek for...

Where's Malcolm?

Apr 21, 2009 - Parc national Abel Tasman – 20 & 21 avril

Y’a bien sûr quelques...

Apr 16, 2009 - Abel Tasman

After 3 and half hours on the Ferry from North to South Island I set off to Motueka via Havelock (which appeared to be a shorter road but they couldn't fit on all the bends on the free map I had!). Then drove through Kaiteriteri and on to Marahau where the activity I had booked departed the next morning. The Barn was the campsite and it was pleasant enough I parked so that I could have a sea view.....well that's what the advert said on the side of my camper "what view will you wake up to?" and indeed I think I did them all park, forest,...

Mar 27, 2009 - Abel Tasman National Park

Wow!

Feb 17, 2009 - Abel Tasman

The Abel Tasman is nothing short of stunning. I was suddenly reminded of Fiji as our water taxi jetted across the crystal clear blue waters. The cloudy weather from the previous day had blown over and the sun was out in full force. I did the usual touristy thing here and joined a kayaking group. After we were all dropped off on an empty beach a couple of miles up the coast we grabbed a paddle, threw on a life jacket and hit the waters. It was beautiful. We spent half the day searching for seals (we found plenty of them lazing about on the...

Grand Day Out

Aug 3, 2008 - Old Mac Donalds Farm

Old Mac Donald had a farm, and im off to visit! Thats the actual name of the farm, its in Marahau, which is the eastern entrance to the Abel Tasman Nationl Park. My bus wasnt due till 2pm so i spent the morning doing some average stuff then decided to have lunch out since i was craving some bacon and eggs. So bacon and eggs on some fancy bread with a glass of leffe it was, and very nice it was too. After which i headed to the Cathedrals park to take some photos and sit around for a bit in the sun. Bus was late, again. Then a very...

Gems Wanderings 2008

Jul 21, 2008 - Abel Tasman National Park

While waiting to hear back from potential employers I finally got sick of sitting around Nelson and decided to head out to Abel Tasman National Park. On sunday I signed up for an all day kayaking trip. We took a boat out to a beach along the marine reserve and got into our kayaks there. We started out paddling around the Tonga Island reserve, which is home to fur seals and even a few penguins. We then paddled for about an hour south to a beach where we stopped for lunch. The second half of the day was a 2.5 hour guided walk to a spot where...

Apr 15, 2008 - Abel Tasman National Park

We had really high hope for the Abel Tasman Natl. Park, but it was raining raining raining. We did not go to the beach as it was so wet. We did a short walk with a rough drive(for our little POS)to a car park to start off. It is the location of some more LOTR filming. Then a hard walk through some smooth, huge boulders, obliviously an old creek bed, to a 400m deep hole. When we got there the rocks were wet and slippery and we couldn't get to close to the edge to see down the hole. What a rip!!
