Oct 12, 2017 - Almost There!
Day 32 - Thursday 12th October Still windy but dry as we wandered down the coast to the ferry terminal at the Hook of Holland. Arrived mid afternoon with lots of time to spare before our 10pm ferry departure. Time for a couple of geocaches & a last meal along the promenade by the terminal. Boarded at 8 pm & straight to our cabin. Fortunately the winds had dropped so we had a quiet crossing. Mileage Today - 93 Mileage To Date - 4,074Jump to full entry
Sep 12, 2017 - Arrived at The Hook
Up at 7am(Dutch time) no problem on crossing, nice & calm. Bit slow getting off boat & through passport control but on the road & heading East out from the Hook by 9am. Stopped late morning in Arnhem down by the river for coffee & then pushed on across Holland & into Germany. Motorway nearly all the way so a bit boring.Jump to full entry
Jun 13, 2014 - Friday The Thirteenth?
Up & on the road at 5am intending to get down past Hamburg before stopping for breakfast, which we did, & missing the worst of the rush hour traffic. We had about 420 miles left to do but it was motorway type roads all the way so barring problems we had till 9.30pm to make the ferry terminal. Only slight hiccup was when stopping at yet another McDonalds, only for the wifi, I checked my emails to find that Stena had confirmed our revised ferry booking. Unfortunately they had changed it to the 10.30pm ferry last night instead of tonight....Jump to full entry
May 18, 2014 - Hit The Road Jack!
Well, we are off & running again. Left home at 7.05pm after a lovely Sunday with our family. Beautiful evening for the two hour drive down to Harwich to catch the night ferry across the North Sea to the Hook of Holland. We went straight up to our cabin after boarding & settled down for the night. These ferry ships are very modern & the facilities are excellent although I do find climbing up to the top bunk to be a bit of a bind. Mileage to date - 77Jump to full entry
May 3, 2013 - Back Home
Our last day. The ships tannoy sounded at 5.30am with a wake-up call and a further announcement at 6.20am called us and the other drivers down to our vehicles ready to disembark. We were second in our line of vehicles on the car deck and were off the boat and through Customs and Immigration checks by 6.45am. All that was left now was the two hour drive up the A12 to Lowestoft and home. Topped up Elsie before we parked up and unloaded Doris, put Ethel to bed and prepared for the forthcoming onslaught of grandchildren. Altogether a very...Jump to full entry
Apr 16, 2013 - Amsterdam
Well, we've made it to Amsterdam. We left home at 6.30pm last night & drove down to Harwich without incident. Boarded ferry at 9pm & straight up to our cabin. Very smart but I had to take the top bunk. Had a short wander around the boat but we were in bed before she set sail at 11.15pm. Couldn't feel any movement at all & slept through to 6.20am, just before the intercom message saying that breakfast available, at extortionate rate. We were summoned to return to our vehicles at 7.45am & were disembarked & out the dock gates by 8am, very...Jump to full entry
