Dec 6, 2011 - Day 5 -10 Battambang Project

Hi all, just giving you the heads up that we will be unable to blog for the next 5 days while we are in Battambang as there is no access to the internet. Rest assured it is a very safe place and we will blog as soon as we reach Phonem Penh. Emma Kovac and Alana Iudica were the bloggers last night, apologies for not having their names on, this has been rectified. Eleanor had a great birtday and we had a cake when we got back from the night market followed by Australian cadburys chocolate. We experienced Cambodian street cuisine last night....

Dec 5, 2011 - Day 4: Siem Reap

Day 4: Siem Reap: Before we start on day 4, let us tell you about last night. After an afternoon of R&R and a swim in the pool we ventured by into the town. WOW! We got the chance for some free time to browse at the markets and get some practice bartering. We were all pretty good but Sammy Yerolemis would have to be the biggest bargin hunter and shopper in the history of shopping. (Noula you need to read the blog more often.)She just couldn't help herself. We all purchased watches, little purses and sunglasses plus others also did a bit of...

Dec 3, 2011 - Day 2 Transit to Kuala Lumpur

Build Up Day - A very long day seeing as we didn't get to leave Melbourne to 1.30am. The dinner at Matthew Flinders was a lot of fun and all the girls got up and sang Karaoke. When we arrived at the airport we had no trouble getting our funds and dividing it between everyone. We had a few mishaps checking in but we managed to get on the flight. Lows - The sisters had trouble checking in due to mistaken identity. 1 challenger almost didn't get on the plane due to a passport incident. 1 girl vomiting most of the plane trip. Air Asia is...

Nov 28, 2011 - Malaysia Trip (September/October)

Week in Malaysia: Hey everyone! I haven’t written in so long, solely because I’ve been extremely busy with teaching and sight seeing! It has now been 6 weeks (OMG!) since we’ve gone to Malaysia. Wow, I am extremely far behind in writing in this blog. I’ll break down my Malaysia trip one day at a time: Day 1: When we first arrived in Malaysia, it was extremely humid and of course raining. When we got to our resort, we were quite shocked to see that our rooms were quite nice and in essence, quite romantic, haha. It would have been a perfect...

Nov 21, 2011 - A walk in the park . . .

It's Monday night as I write - today we had clear skies and reasonable temperatures tempting us to a days' walking through KL's beautiful Botanic Gardens. A fairly robust commitment on foot, the expanse of parklands and lakeside walks is recommended as a 5-hour walk. We managed to spend at least this much time around the gardens - really beautiful and seemingly no end of stunning lush tropical foliage. We eventually moved out of the gardens and jumped onto a train to head over to the Petronus twin towers. They really are something to see,...

Vietnam NOV11

Nov 20, 2011 - In KL it's beginning to look a lot like . . .

What a city - we haven't experienced KL before, and it's been everything we expected and more. Loving the happiness of a growing, buzzing, busy city with varying cultures firmly entrenched in everyday life. Couldn't resist these Christmas pics from several stores - ranging from the newest and possibly most spectacular shopping centre, The Pavilion, to the back streets of Chinatown. Everyone's into it - regardless of religous beliefs! Enjoy . . .

Nov 14, 2011 - Bye bye India! Hello Maylaysia!

Hello everyone, We arrived in Malaysia two days ago in the small hours. Luckily our hotel still had a chap on the desk when we arrived which was great. We had called from India in the morning to check, but I gave it less than 80 percent. Malaysia is a good respite after our 6 weeks in India. We have visited both the Petronas Twin Towers and the tele-communications tower. Amazing buildings, the Malayans love their sky-scrapers. Just been told 2 mins by owner bye.................... Pics to follow. Much love to a you all, love Chris and Petrina...

Asian Adventure 2011

Nov 5, 2011 - KL - halfway home.

We left on time, and the flight to KL was not any more exciting than it usually is. I did have a rather interesting man, sat along side me. He was from Sri Lanka, and travels to China, to purchase electronic components, and computer extras, for his business in his home town. He was not easy to talk to though, as he had a very strong accent, and I had to keep asking him to repeat himself, which became embarrassing. We landed, and I wandered about for a while, and then went looking for food. I had my hotel room booked for 10pm, and I had...

Oct 20, 2011 - Kuala Lumpur for the day

We didn't wake until 7.45am...it is going to be interesting to see how we go when we get home. We headed for breakfast...a very Asian affair and rather different from what we've been eating most of the time we've been away. I managed to score an omlette thanks to Pete's sussing out. It was very nice. It was very muggy as we sat outside at the restaurant...you can tell we are back in the tropics. Check out was 12 noon so we decided to be layabouts in our room before packing and checking out. We left our bags with the hotel and headed off to...

Oct 19, 2011 - London to KL

What can I say? Yes, it was a long flight although it didn't seem as long as the trip over, maybe because we flew at night. We boarded and took off about an hour late. We'd only been in the air for about half an hour and the cabin crew were feeding us a meal...this was at about 1.00am. I'm sure we didn't need it however it filled in a bit of time, I guess. Then it was lights off and. It, night time for everyone. I slept for at least 5 hours which was a bonus, read, watched a couple of movies, and next thing we knew, we were landing at...

Oct 18, 2011 - Day in London and then off to the airport

On the train to Stansted Airport to catch the plane to Kuala Lumpur. It's 6pm and we don't fly out until 11.15pm however we like to be early. Having said that though, not 5 hours early. I checked the Stansted Express site this morning and it said there was an interruption on the line and we couldn't go direct from Liverpool St Station, as expected. We set off this morning to find out what our alternatives were and planned our journey accordingly. Once we sorted our planning for getting to the airport, we walked down to the river and...
