Jul 5, 2012 - Kuala Lumpur: Chapter 8 - Beautiful Burma

Hello again! I have finally made it back to a place with a reasonable internet connection! It really wasn't worth the effort in Burma! We have now made it to Kuala Lumpur, where we will spend a few days before flying to Bali for a few week of sun, sea and sand before I head off to do real life things in Australia. After Lake Inle, we got another horrible bus up to Mandalay. Mandalay is one of the few places in Burma that I had heard of before I went, but it is actually a rather uninteresting city. There is a large palace taking up a large...

Jun 17, 2012 - Malaysia - Day 11- Pandang to KL Airport

We caught a bus at 11pm from Pandang, it was supposed to be a 5 hour journey into Kuala Lumpur to the LCCT airport but we arrived at 3:30am. The bus ride itself was great, it was the best bus we have had in such a long time. We felt like we had hit the jackpot, why does it only have to be on a short trip. The seats reclined, it was clean and not smelly, it looked brand new - it was sweet. We've been here before, with Nico & Delphine on Christmas eve of last year. We were heading out to Melaka at that time. We quickly found the McDonald's,...

Jun 11, 2012 - Day 25 Kuala Lumpur

We arrived in KL on time at 6:25am and caught the train into the city. Then caught a taxi from the train terminal to the hotel. We were hoping for early check in however were told that unless we wanted to pay an extra 150MY, we couldn't check in until 11:00am. The main reason we wanted early check in was because Wong and his wife Pauline (one of our Airbnb customers) were coming to take us out for breakfast at 10:00am and a shower and change of clothes would have been nice. Never mind, we had a bit of a wash under the tap, brushed our teeth...

Jun 10, 2012 - Day 24 Paris to Kuala Lumpur

Up early to clean the apartment, finish off our packing and say a fond farewell to gay Paree. We have had a wonderful time and both feel a bit sad about leaving. Terrel told me last night that the Line 1 train does not commence services on Sundays until 10:00am so we will have to re-think our journey to the airport. I checked the map and saw that we could walk to Pont Marie and take Line 7 to get the Chatelet where we changed to the RER line to the airport. We had a lovely walk to Pont Marie and said our farewells to the neighbourhood on...

May 20, 2012 - Kuala Lumpur

Very hot and humid after Europe but I enjoyed my three days here. Stayed in a nice bed and breakfast near the airport. You could walk to the station and get the train to central Kuala Lumpur so it was very convenient. It was a bit like Bangkok big city but only a little way out and the people are poor but happy. This is the last report as I am back in Australia and will be back in beautiful South West Rocks Soon.BYE ALL

May 16, 2012 - Kuala Lumpur

A boat and bus got us to KL. We stayed in a cute little hotel that I got with airline points in the heart of Chinatown. Once we got settled, we explored the city and decided the Kuala Lumpur is cool. We went to the famous Patronas Towers and they were so huge and silver and beautiful. We took lots of pics and attracted some fans or "street friends" I started calling them- which were people who wanted to take their pictures with us. So we did and also took some with our camera as well. Malaysians are so nice- I'd say some of the nicest and...

Apr 15, 2012 - Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas, plus fireflies

The flight from Singapore to KL was less than an hour and Robert managed to get us some seats with a bit of legroom as well so it was really quite a good flight, we have so many to look forward to, or not, that it was nice to have no hassles. At the airport we booked a cab and it took a good hour to get to Roberts apartment just outside KL. The apartment is fabulous with loads of rooms all with fantastic views of KL and especially at night where it is all lit up. We could see the twin Petronas Towers from the balcony which is the iconic...

Apr 8, 2012 - Our last stop - KL

We have stopped over in KL for 2 nights / 3 days on our way home. We arrived at 6am in the morning and after going through customs etc, arrived wearily at the hotel. To our delight they allowed us to check in immediately. We spent the day in and out of napping, shopping and the pool. Funnily, I can fly all the way home from Europe and not suffer jet lag - but stick a stop- over in and it knocks me about. We all felt it - and we're totally disorientated. The only significant thing we did yesterday was the Twin Towers. The buildings are...

Apr 2, 2012 - Kuala Umpa Lumpurs!

Hi all, Huge fun and games at KL airport. They wouldn't let us board without onward travel from New Zealand. We were on a connection from Indonesia via KL when this problem came up. THey told us we could board if we bought a ticket for a reurn journey or we'd lose our NZ flights. We bought the tickets but the plane took off as we had been quing for over an hour before we even got to the check out. Obviously we were very angry and upset and got no where with the staff at the counter. It was complete chaos with late flights and people missing...

Mar 15, 2012 - Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur

Well, I'm in the Northern Hemisphere (just). An uneventful trip although a bit bumpy around the cyclone area. I've just had a luxurious shower in the Golden Lounge here. The shower head was at least 15 inches diameter - there's obviously no lack of water in Malaysia. I've already checked out the Duty Free booze & can get 1125 ml of Bacardi for just over $20 which is cheaper than Melbourne. The bad news is that I can only take one bottle into the UK. Oh well!
