Mar 20, 2017 - Orang Utans and Sunbears....

We had a quick turnaround in the city before jumping on the bus and head over to Sepilok, the final destination before we were going to head back to Kota Kinabalu to end out tour. The journey over to the town was less than an hour and we were dropped straight at the Orang Utan rehabilitation centre where we spent a few hours watching the orang utans wandering down the boardwalks, being fed, busing their young and generally playing on the ropes / hammocks etc set up for them. There was definitely one ‘master’ (or possibly bully) who liked to...

Oct 9, 2016 - Wild man madness

So today has been an interestinsg day, and one where I have repeatedly had to pinch myself that I wasn't dreaming. After another early start we headed to the airport for the short flight across Sabah to Sandakan and the start of the hopefully relaxing extension. I was given a window seat and the flight provided some stunning views of Mount Kinabalu, and it is difficult to think that it was only 24 hours since we were stood on its summit. Having been met at the airport, our first port of call was to the Sepilok Orang utan and Sun Bear...

Dave in Borneo 2016

Sep 29, 2012 - Sepilok

Sepilok B & B Wiki Travel Sepilokl Left 6am to drop off Andrea at airport on our way to Sepilok and Orang Rehab Center. A real disappointment!! For all the hype, at feeding time the keepers brought out a young male who proceeded to have sex with every (3) female and dominate the feeding platform entirely! This was totally uninteresting after the first 5 minutes unlike our experience in Kuching where all the Orangs came from the surrounding rain forest of their own free will (not at the end of a rope like the young male in this case)....

Jan 13, 2011 - Sepilok & Jungle Safari

Arrived 13th January Departed 17th January Arrived at Uncle Tan’s and chilled for a night before heading out on a 3 day 2 night jungle safari on the Kinabatangan river. What an experience that was!! We went on a night boat safari and saw all sorts: stalk billed kingfisher, bull frog, long tailed Macaques, great egret, snake bird, a leopard cat, flying fox and baby crocs. During the day on the boat safaris we saw otters, big crocs, huge monitor lizard, orang utan (one carrying a baby too! So cute), gibbons and 2 different species of...

Flip flop's tour

Jun 28, 2010 - Sepilok

28th June Got up early for a local bus to Sepilock where we were kicked off at a junction so we got a taxi the next 2.5km to our 'hostel'. The first hostel I've been in with welcome drinks, jaccuzi and resteraunt. We spent the afternoon sunbathing, had a walk but are pretty much in an oasis in the middle of nowhere. Just one other cafe and a spa?! Found a new tedious game, waiting for tea, involving swingig a hoop onto a peg. Made our own entertainment on the porch of the dorm with a box of chocholates all the way from England and made...

Aug 13, 2009 - Orangutan Mania in Sepilok

Today once again demonstrated how efficient it can be for tourists to get around and see the sights of Sabah. It is shortly after dinner at the Sukau Greenview B&B in the small town of Sukau on the Kinabatangan River. As we are heading on a night riverboat safari for a couple of hours starting at 9 p.m., we aren’t even done yet for today. After a leisurely breakfast this morning at the Sepilok B&B, we headed down the road to watch the orangutan feeding at the Sepilok Rehabilitation Center. As we had heard it does, the twice daily feeding...

Break From the Law

Jul 29, 2009 - Welcome to the jungle!!

"Welcome to the Jungle!" was how we were greeted by the staff at the jungle camp we stayed at for 3 days. This camp was fantastic - we saw some incredible wildlife but also the staff and the group of other travellers we were with were all so much fun. The facilities were very basic but we got our fill of river safaris, walking safaris through the rainforest and the Kinabatangan river areas - both during the day and night. The highlight, well one of them, was spotting 4 orang utans in the wild on our last day. It was beautiful to see them...

Jul 2, 2009 - Sepilok
