Dec 22, 2011 - Mabul Island - Day 17 - 19 - Diving & Snorkeling off of Mabul Island

Dec. 20th: we did a dive in the afternoon around 1pm. House Reef, located just off shore. Visibility was extremely poor, 3 days prior there was a storm that hit and caused the current conditions we are experiencing. Dec. 21st: we did two dives, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It was a beautiful day today with no rain just pure sunshine and calm ocean waters. First dive was at ‘Lobster Wall’, we dove down to a depth of 18 meters. We saw a moray eel, lots of jack fish, trigger fish, star fish, Moorish idol, sea snake, nemo's,...

Jun 21, 2010 - Diving Sipadan - 2nd part.

On total, we spent 5 days in the Seaventures Dive Rig and we can affirm that this is the best base to dive Sipadan with excellent Dive Masters, food and very efficient operation, from the boat rides to the diving spots, the equipment prep team and the rig lift that makes all the diving logistics super easy. We did 19 dives, being 11 in Sipadan, 2 in Mabul, 2 in Kapalai and 4 under the Rig. Sipadan island is for sure a top diving location and the Barracuda point is the best spot... it is impossible to not give this place a high score... just...

Jun 18, 2010 - Diving in Sipadan !!

We left Semporna and took the 45' boat ride to our "hotel"... not really, we are staying in an old Oil Rig platform that was converted to a diving hotel. The place is really cool, highly recommended for a diving trip to Sipadan and it is located just a couple of km offshore Mabul island. This is a place for divers... you do 3 dives in the morning and other 2 in the afternoon ( minimum ); it is an "all included place". The diving spots are 1) under the platform !!; 2) in front of the rig, on Mabul island; 3) less then 10 minutes on Kapalai...

Jun 9, 2010 - Borneo - Sipadan / Mabul Islands

Nov 27, 2009 - Mabul Island

I wake up in time for breakfast and give Paul's door a bang and yell out that breakfast is ready. I head down for breakfast which isn't to bad. Paul still isn't down. I pack my bags and get ready for the day's diving. At about 7:55 I bang on Paul's door again as the boats suppose to leave at 8:00. I head down stairs and across the road to the scuba shop. There's no people hanging around and get told that the boat's captain is running late because it's a religious holiday and he's at his mosque. We'll be leaving at 8:30 instead. 8:25 rolls...

Jan 5, 2008 - The journey of a young girl, part II; Truth

(Photo's of this part has to come from friends, they'll be up as soon as I get them!) By now it's the 24th of december. Getting out of the buss at the end of the day was total agony, climbing the mountain has left it's traces! Walking was quite fine, but everything that involved a change of level... Well, picture it. :) A friendly woman showed me to way to Uncle Chang, helping me with my luggage. Uncle Chang is one of the affordable hotels at Mabul, from which you can go diving at Sipadan. Sipadan is called one of the best diving places of...

Nov 19, 2006 - Malaysia - Semporna

We had been told diving at the Sipadan Islands off Borneo was a must do but we had also heard that there was A1 Racing at the Sepang Racing Circuit in Kuala Lumpur in a week's time, so in order to fit both in we had to get a last minute same day flight to Tawau, Borneo. So off to the airport we went. After a rather interesting 6hrs at the airport trying to get our backpacks down to just 15kg each, we thought it best to give one of the diving hostels a quick call to at least arrange a nights accomodation and a taxi from the airport as we...

JG: Did three dives from Semporna, 2 on Sipadan and 1 near Mabul... AMAZING!!! the best diving I have ever done. There were so many fish and dozens of giant turtles swimming around us..and I mean around us, above us , below us and with us!REALLY incredible experience, we even saw two mating at the top of the water. Loads of sharks, one not very happy we were there, so swam around showing us it's teeth. Moray eels, yellow and blue spotted sting ray, snakes and stone fish. Just beautiful. Went with a great company - Scuba Junkies! TS: Wow....
