Sep 19, 2005 - Taman Negara National Park (14-15/09/05)

May 26, 2005 - Jungle fever!

To get to the Taman Negara rainforest we took a long boat up the river to the park base. It was a really amazing boatride, although everyone but me fell asleep so maybe it's just me! The river is big and murky and the forest was thick on both sides. I spotted monkeys in the trees on the way, all sorts of tropical birds and even a wild boar! We were dropped at one of the floating restaurants that make up the docking area for the village opposite the base. This is where most people stay in guesthouses and then take the boat crossing to the...

Mar 26, 2005 - Malaysia - Taman Negara

I headed back up North to a place called Taman Negara, its ideal if you are not the sunbathing type. Its got waterfalls, walks galore, aborigines and lots more. I believe its the oldest rainforest in the world and dates back to the ice-age!! I went first to the Orang Asli settlement, totally facinating...... The tribe are so young and the mothers were maybe 15! Needless to say there's not alot to do after about 7pm so they have on average between 5 and 12 children! The elders die around 40 and due to child mortaility they need that many...

Mar 20, 2005 - Taman Negara National Park, Malaysia

On March 17th, we spent the day traveling to Taman Negara National Park, where the oldest rainforest in the world resides. This is the oldest rainforest because of it's location, it did not go through the ice age which wiped out the other rainforests back in the days. There was one line in the Lonely Planet guide that caught my interest for this place... it called Taman Negara the rainforest that contained species which inspire science-fiction movies. So, obviously I had to go see for myself. A little massachistic since I have a fear of...
