May 3, 2010 - Taman Negara

Dec 14, 2009 - Change of plans =)

Mar 2, 2009 - Native village

On this day, we also visited a native village that was supposedly isolated from the outside world until only about ten years ago. Before that time, they wore leaves and bark for clothes and made fire from scratch, which in the video is demonstrated and many of the tourists, including me got to try. They also hunted with blowgun darts, some poisonous, which we also got to try (not the poisonous ones).

Mar 1, 2009 - Deerland Park

These images are all from Deerland nature park. It was part of the three day nature package I purchased. Here they had many animals of various kinds. They had wild deer, all sorts of birds, differing types of mammals. Many of them I got to feed, hold, or touch.

Oct 30, 2007 - Taman Nagara National Park

The trip from Cherating to Taman Negara National Park was quite an adventure in itself. We left today at 9am, changed buses four times and arrived at our destination a little after 7pm. On the last bus journey, we met a pleasant Canadian couple that are traveling SE Asia for about six weeks and today is day number 4. Over dinner and breakfast the next day we had a good time sharing various travel stories. We mainly came to Taman Negara to walk over the 530 meter long suspension bridge (40 meters high). We hit the bridge first thing but I...

Apr 18, 2007 - Taman Negara - the jungle

Hello We left the lovely cool climate of the highlands, and chris who was moving on to Thailand, and swapped it for the hot, steamy interior of the jungle! And man it was hot, we lost a few pints of sweat just looking for a place to stay! We met a couple of people on the bus on the way over so spent most of our time with them, which was nice. There was Mat and Leanne who were travelling down SE Asia and Martin who was also going up like us. We all set out the first morning to do the canopy walk, a suspended bridge, over a 40m canyon! When...

Sep 23, 2006 - The oldest rainforest in the world

It's been a while, and I have only a short time to update this, so I'll try and be quick! Ok, on Friday after my last entry I got a taxi to the bus station at 7.30am to get the bus to Temerloh at 8am. I then had a 3 and a half hour journey to Temerloh where I had to catch another bus to Jerantut. From Jerantut I had to catch a taxi to Kuala Temberling, where I could get the riverbus to the camp I planned to stay at in Taman Negara. As I was in the taxi to K.Temberling, some monkeys ran across the road, but there wasn't a sign to warn you...

Jun 30, 2006 - The Jungle Book

A change of scene was in store for Ashley and Fiona. After the urban jungle of Kuala Lumpur, the towering trees of the Taman Negara jungle replaced the Menara and Petronas towers of the city. The journey was a long and arduous affair: Two buses lasting about 4 hours, a stay over in the boiling hot 'Jerantut' (Although a cafe with lots of gigantic TV screens just down the road showed the football...), another one-hour bus ride and a 3 hour boat trip up a river made up our route there from Kuala Lumpur. It would turn out to be a worthwhile...

Jun 18, 2006 - Taman Negera

We headed north east to Taman Negra (National Park in Malay) from KL and, like normal, we arranged our on transport, using the local busses when possible, rather than the package tours offered along with all the other tourists. It is always cheaper but some times it can be a real pain if connections don't work out. Well this time it was fine and after a short overnight stay in the nearest main town to the park we headed off in the morn with only two other people on the bus. The trip was an hour compared to the 3 hours boat trip most tourist...

May 3, 2006 - Back to where it all started! Malaysia

From Hanoi we flew back to Malaysia to take in the jungles of Taman Negara and the East coast (since it wasn't flooded with torrential downpour this time). It was quite amusing to see how much we had matured or learned over our five monthes in S.E. Asia because instead of paying $20 each for a guesthouse (like we did our first time through Kuala Lumpur), we found a way cooler place (Le Village for any one going to KL)for $8 each! I guess it wasn't the first time we noticed locals preying on nieve travellers! Couple days back in Kuala...
