Sep 23, 2018 - Stromboli
Had a nice driving tour around Lipari, a huge lunch and then boarded a hydrofoil to Stromboli. Kind of sad to be leaving Lipari, it is a gem. Beautiful black sand beaches here on Stromboli with calm seas. I think we can endure the hardships of life here. Had a terrific evening. We ate at an outdoor pizzeria under a full moon and intermittent eruptions of the Stromboli volcano. We were like kids at a candy store when we saw the flames.

The next two days are sea days. Sea Day. Thank HEAVENS. We’d been going at it, pretty hard, for the last several days, and these two sea days were going to be a welcomed respite…despite the fact that we would lose an hour overnight due to a time change on the first day. Lots of things on the Cruise Compass and agenda today…World’s Sexiest Man Competition, the Captain’s Gala Reception, the Adult Dodgeball Competition, numerous trivia challenges, the Cruise Critic Meet ‘n Mingle. Whew. Can I tell you how awesome it was to sleep in a little,...

After dropping the anchor in a bay under the...

Oct 10, 2013 - Stromboli and Strait of Messina
Scenic cruising day at sea Today was a scenic cruising day as we leave the west coast of Italy and head for Corfu tomorrow. At 10am we passed slowly by the volcanic Island of Stromboli. It is continually active with some fire balls erupting a few times a day. Some of you may remember the movie “Stromboli” with the beautiful Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini. The cruise continued through the Strait of Messina; a narrow channel between Italy and Sicily which can be quite a challenge to ships at certain times. It was a lovely...
