Apr 16, 2018 - Italy here we come ...

Well for those you read my journal regularly and have been wondering where the next installment was …here is the story. Having completed our first week or so at the trullo I had written and was ready to publish the next installment of our trip journal. Then I had a catastrophic Travel PC failure. At the time of this writing it is still stuck in recovery mode, I have paid for recovery from Microsoft but so far to no avail … and at best it may work again but everything on it is lost. Unfortunately, that included the blog and the instructions...

Apr 16, 2018 - The Beatons have arrived

Saturday we all agree with the beautiful sunshine a nice long walk is in order. That will help clear the heads and deal hopefully with some jet lag. We get the required 10,000 steps for Gail and then head into Locorontondo for lunch. It is still one of the cutest towns perched all in white on top of the hill. From the right road you can see the ‘round’ old town perfectly. After a short wander through the labyrinth of streets we enjoy antipasti and fave e cicori at another favourite restaurant U Curdunn. A light dinner is all we need, and...

Mar 18, 2018 - Villa San Giovanni

The 30 minute ferry ride went smoothly as had been the boarding procedure. No reversing on and into position with this one. It had been extremely relaxing and we were ready to mix it with traffic to our next base, Scilla, the starting point of our southern Italian mainland adventure.

Mar 3, 2018 - Good Food in Geneva

I was able to sample some of the best food. Cheese fondue twice for dinner and another night the Rostis. I guess if you do a lot of skiing this food would be OK, I do not usually drink white wine, but the white wine of Switzerland was very tasty. I had read that Switzerland had good wine but few get to drink it because they only export about 20% of what the make. The rest is consumed within Switzerland.

Mar 2, 2018 - Geneva, Switzerland; Some Sunshine Afteer the Snow

It snowed in Geneva the day I arrived by train and the air port was closed. I snowed all night and all the next day while I was on the Chocolate Walking Tour. I still snowed the next day too, but by afternooon cleared and I was able to take a stroll along the shore of Lake Geneva. Was slushy and slick but so pretty.

Mar 2, 2018 - On a Walking Chocolate Tour in Geneva

Since I pre-booked this walking tour about chocolate before i learned about the weather I hated to cancel, especially since I paid about $100 for it. To my surprise it was not cancelled and the other three people who booked it also showed up. A lady from Virginia and a young couple from London. Most all the other tours for Geneva and the Day Trips were not offered at this time of year. Fortunately not only was chocolate shops explored but a good part of the old city and historical landmarks were included. We had to make a stop of one of the...

Feb 25, 2018 - Snowbound in Mondovi, Italy: A Winter Wonderland

It is Sunday and I was last out on Wednesday. The snow began falling again Wednesday night. I was told there wasn’t much snow here and did not pack well for this weather or bring snow boots. It seems to be about 8 inches of snow. Thankfully, a neighbor has just cleared the roads of snow and there is no ice. There was a power problem for a few minutes yesterday and afterwards the thermostat stopped working. No hot water, floor, or towel racks. A testament to how friendly everyone is here; I flagged down a neighbor man this morning, the one...

Feb 18, 2018 - Photos of Mondovi, Italy; Hilltop Town

I ventured out on foot today. Another wintery, cold day. The 15 minute walk is all uphill, the first part, nose to the ground in front of me, steep! There were only a few people wandering around which was good from my picture taking. I am in love with the annient and well preserved hilltop cities of Italy. Originally built on hilltops for security reasons as this country was in the crossroads of many warring groups. But the amazing thing to this American is how well preserved they all are. They continue to look much the same as they did 400...

Feb 16, 2018 - Mondovi, Italy

Now for the best part of this trip to Italy, 2 weeks housesitting near Mondovi, Italy, a typical ‘hilltop city’. I can relax, read, enjoy this beautiful restored 400 plus years old farmhouse on the edge of town. The views from every room are breathtaking. The house was rescued several years ago by US friends of mine who have since become residents of Italy and love the more relaxed lifestyle. I was happily introduced to a group of their lady friends. Ladies from England, Australia, Scotland, the US and Italy, who fortunately for me, all...

Feb 10, 2018 - Moneglia

After a great 5 hour drive we picked up our door keys and almost immediately our unit was made homely, clothes hanging, kitchen sorted and washing underway. Gilli was on a roll. Thankfully the vacuum stayed in its cupboard. An afternoon walk-around got our bearings sorted and allowed us to appreciate how nice this small village was. Quaint, colourful, peaceful and seaside. Perfecto. Moneglia was well placed on the Mediterranean shoreline between Genoa to the north and Livorno to the south and served our purposes well. First up was the...

Nov 2, 2017 - Italy - the final countdown

We had gone into Paco for snacks and wine and stayed too long so Thursday morning we are both not feeling 100%. We meet Gabry for coffee and she has kindly prepared paperwork for us to cancel Aria. She has prepared the cancellation letter and the post office paperwork to register the letter. This all works fine but the bank not so much. Gabry has written out that we want to stop the direct debit. As usual a visit to an Italian bank is long and complicated. In the end it is not possible only Aria can stop the direct debit … crazy. Let’s see...

Italy Fall 2017

Oct 28, 2017 - Adorable towns and big competitions

Today we awake to a real mist again and it is cooler than it has been. Gabry is supposed to come up to take some new pictures of the outside for the real estate page. We have had a leisurely morning all staying in our rooms till 8 am. Although Terry lounged to more like 9. I think she was just lying there till she got an over 100 point Word Chums word against me! Gabry has not arrived by 11 when the sun breaks through but just as well as with the mist the pictures wouldn’t be great anyhow. Ed takes the opportunity to glue and bang back the...
