Earlier this week, I arrived in Xela after my travels in Tikal. The plan upon arrival was to stay for only 2 weeks enrolled in school then take a week of vacation travelling to visit Antigua, Lake Atitlán, hike both volcán Santiagito and Tajumulco. This still remains the plan but given the difference in altitude and my fear of getting altitude sickness, I decided to hike both volcanos a week apart so today at 5:00am, I leave for Tajumulco. Xela 2012

Dec 26, 2012 - La Navidad

So for Christmas, I went to a village 4 hours away from Xela to spend it with the family of the mother. This is where the fun begins. Monday after class, we rushed to catch the last buses going to Por venir. Keep in mind, it was a combination of 4 buses. I cant explain how crowded the buses were enough. we had 3 ppl in each seat, lines of people standing and even a couple people hanging on the doors...lol. Mar 14, 2009 - update

well i sent an email the other day to 5 people, but i guess word got around and i think i caused a bit of an alarm. i was panicked at the time but i'm ok now. the email concerned my feelings of unsafety here. i'm feeling a lot better now. i've taken the necessary precautions and i'm very alert. i also spoke about it with Bobolop. its been 2 mths i've been here and honestly i'ts not easy, but i'm hanging on. i'm thinking about changing to another city where there are more people from the project. we'll see. i have to make sure wherever i go...
