Tecun Uman, Guatemala--Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico I´m mildly exhausted today from the yesterday´s long travel day. Still woke up early, though, thanks to my new roommate, and fat friend, Domingo´s gas. I almost had a heart attack when he busted loose. Anyway, the early bird gets the worm in these parts. 6am-8am is prime time for hondu to cross the Suchiate River into North America. Jul 20, 2011 - Shopping anyone?
When I was done investigating the river, I ventured back into Guatemala and spent the afternoon doing what I had waited a long time to do...shop. Sounds weird, don´t it. You see, in Tecun Uman, Guatemala, for some odd reason, there are more than 50 second hand clothing shops. This is where you can find a needle in a haystack. In past years I have found Donkey Kong, Popeye, Pony amongst others. Each t-shirt will set u back $1. The same shirt in NY would cost you around $50. Jul 19, 2011 - Tecun a Matta
July 19 Esquipulas-Guatemala City-Tecun Uman (Guatemala) Long day, perhaps the longest day of the entire trip. It´s a day of non-stop travel and no food, but, nevertheless, an important day. This is the day I make major travel decisions which can affect the productivity of my fieldwork. You may be wondering why today is a day of no food.
