Aug 28, 2015 - Cruise day 7 - At Sea

Today we are at sea all day - and need to ensure we change our time due to the crossing of the time line. I decide to add up my receipts to see how we are going against our drinks package - needs to pay for itself you know!! So I add it up and do not believe it - so do it again - can you believe we have already spent 70 euro over our package cost? Still have a full day at sea to add to this - so yes you could say it has paid for itself!! I think it is all David as I am sure I have not been drinking that much - hehehehe. So no rush this...

Aug 23, 2015 - Cruise day 2 - At Sea

Well not the best night at all. I woke up about 3.30am and the boat had a little rock up, it was pitch black and I started to have a panic attack!! I managed to breath my way through it but it took a couple of hours to settle myself down. All day at sea today - not sure how I am going to go with that. Anyway we get up and going about 8ish - upstairs to the buffet for breakfast - OMG the food up here is out of this world. I only want a piece of toast. Anyway because we have the drink package we can have barista made coffee instead coffee out...

Aug 22, 2015 - Cruise day 1 - Kiel

We had a lovely sleep last night and a slow morning this morning - not required to do anything at all. So had breaky and a few espresso's (from our lovely espresso machine) - it was so quiet outside. We went out to explore for a bit and there was hardly anyone around. But loved the feel of the place. Back to the room at 10.30am with morning tea and another espresso. We repacked our luggage and popped our cruise labels on. Then stowed it away in the luggage compartment of the apartments. We decided to walk to the Cruise Terminal at the port...

Aug 21, 2015 - Tour day 14 - Kiel

Today we sadly leave our tour friends behind and travel to Kiel in Germany to start our cruise. We caught a taxi to Grae du Nord (Paris North Station) at 6.30am to catch our train to Kiel. We got to the station by 7.00am (1 hour early) but prefer to be early than late. Not much happening here this time of morning. We found a coffee shop open and buy espresso and croissant for 2 euro 95. Enough for me at this time of day. Worked out which platform we needed and boarded about 7.35pm. Train left right on time and we had super comfy seats with...

Jun 9, 2014 - Another visit to the Keil Canal . This time to the locks

We decided to revisit the Kiel Canal. This time to the main locks in Kiel. Driving to the locks we drove over an old bridge with views down onto the canal. We found somewhere to stop (Germany is not very good at providing viewpoints!)and walked onto the bridge. Great views. When we arrived at the locks there was only one small vessel going through so we waited around for a while. Just as we were thinking about to leaving we spotted along the canal a huge container ship coming. A short while after another ship appeared, then another and then...

Aug 1, 2008 - Kiel, Germany

I made a short trip to Kiel to attend my grandmother's funeral. Although I was planning to go there later in the month, I decided to go anyway and I'm glad I did. It was really good to be there and to share the occasion with my mother, as well as to meet some relatives who I might never meet again. Friday was a rather strange day. I woke up at 5:00 AM in a tiny village in the French countryside. As I drove to the Paris airport, the sun was just coming up over the seemingly endless fields of wheat and grapevines. I stopped briefly for fresh...

May 1, 2007 - ***Tuesday morning tour the Kiel Canal locks

Hello I did take along nap on Sunday afternoon in my hotel in Rendsburg. It felt great to kick back. Tuesday on the road for more adventure. Found out first thing it was a German National Holiday but relatively quiet on road, etc. I couldn't tell as much as the Netherlands one. The only thing I regret is that there was an art gallery I was going to visit in the city of Rendsburg on Monday morning. An artist's oil paintings I liked but it was not open because of holiday. So I drove onto the locks in Holtenau just a few km north of Kiel. Now...

Apr 28, 2007 - ***Saturday - my new home for a few days Rendsburg on the North Sea Canal; largest after Suez and Panama

And then after Bremerhaven I drove south again to Bremen and then around Elbe River inlet and north through Hamburg to Rendsburg. In afterthought I think it would have been just as easy to go north from Bremerhaven to Cuxhaven, catch a ferry across the river Elbe and drive B roads to Rendsburg. Got in about 7PM, very nice accomodation. Took a walk in city, found post, bank, internet cafe, and steakhouse. Decided to have a ribeye and get some red meat. I've been taking my iron but haven't had alot of greens like spinach or red meat - good...

Aug 18, 2006 - Cruise: Kiel Canal [Germany]

A day on board today as we traverse the Kiel Canal from the North Sea at the entrance of the Elbe River in Germany on the west to the Baltic Sea at Kiel on the east coast. The canal is only some 100 metres wise se we see the countryside on both sides for about 8 hours while we eat, drink, read, watch a movie on TV and generally relax. It's a good break - our only day "at sea". An early morning mile sprint along the training track at 7:00, then breakfast. Drizzling most of the day but that doesn't really matter. The ship glides silently...

Aug 5, 2006 - Morgenstern, casamento do mano!
