May 8, 2006 - Le Mont Saint Michel

May 8th was our second anniversary - what a way to celebrate! We started our morning with a quick breakfast at a cafe across from our hotel on the mount. We wanted to make sure we got a good head start before all the tourist groups made it impossible to see anything. We absolutley loved this place! It was like a self contained mideval town surrounded by thick walls and topped with a glorious cathedral. Absolutely enchanting. We trekked up the short climb to the entrance to the abbey and purchased an audio guide; really the only way to go!...

Dec 5, 2005 - Avranches, Le Mont St Michel and St Malo

This weekend we headed back to Normandie and were again welcomed by Alex's parents and a fantastic homemade cheese souffle, 3 great salads and creme brulee for desert. Early Saturday we drove ~2 1/2 hours to a hill top village called Avranches for a view of Le Mont St Michel a coffee and a Vin Chaud (hot red wine, cointreau, cinnamon & muscat). After our stroll around the town we drove on to Le Mont St Michel. History of Le Mont St Michel - the 2nd most visited place in France after Paris. One October night in 708, the Archangel Michael...

We drove away from the Mont with sadness as it had been very peaceful there during the evenings after all the buses left. Unfortunately, the hotel we were in was fully booked. As I mentioned on the 14th, I had found a...

Jun 13, 2005 - Mont Saint Michel

We've made it to Mont St. Michel, after several false starts trying to find our way out of Rennes. Fortunately Michael has had experience driving in Europe before, so entering and exiting the roundabouts wasn't too harrowing. Unfortunately I'm still feeling crappy; but, hey, at least I'm feeling crappy IN FRANCE (if you're a SpongeBob SquarePants fan you might get that reference - or not). After spending our first hours on the Mont sitting in our darkened hotel room working on the computer (almost like watching T.V. while camping, huh...

Oct 15, 2004 - Dinan

We are now on our 3rd night in Dinan. We realized we were moving too fast so we took a vacation from our vacation. We got in late the first night. Had a little trouble finding a place to stay, but we did. The next day we checked in to a very cute B & B. It is great so we are staying for two nights. Tomorrow we are off to Loire to see some castles. Posted lots of new pics...enjoy!
