Mar 24, 2008 - And we're BACK!!!!!!!!!!
Hello! As some of you already know, we are back on Canadian soil, which happens to be frozen at the moment. We still have our tans, but they are slowly disappearing. We are happy to be home, we just wish that home was a little more tropical.... Fiji was truly fantastic, words or pictures can't do it justice, so I won't drone on.....you'll just have to go there yourselves! Okay. I'll drone on a little bit (can you blame me?). We stayed on the Yasawa Islands, powered only by generators during the day and oil lamps at night. The spiders were...Jump to full entry
Feb 16, 2008 - Bula!
(Firstly, I lost all my photo's of Fiji except a few due to a memory card Virus so all of these photo's have been kindly donated by people who I travelled with, so please keep checking this one for more photo's). I fly into Fiji and I regret wearing my jumper on the plane as it is boiling hot and humid. I walk through into customs and I am greeted by very a smiley Fijian band. I am amused by the fact customs has it's own senior citizen's line, I do notice a few people in denial in my line! I spent the first two nights in Nadi, staying...Jump to full entry
Feb 12, 2008 - Didn't want to leave!
Had my doubts about Fiji after landing in the middle of a storm! Luckily my first impression was wrong and I ended up having a brilliant time. First experience of "Fiji time" was waiting for a transfer to my island at the airport. Only half an hour late which I soon found was actually early for Fiji!! One and a half hour boat trip to the island was very choppy due to the storm and was glad I didn't have a big breakfast! Got a traditional Fiji singing welcome on arrival to my resort which was cool. Resort was brilliant with hammocks...Jump to full entry
Dec 13, 2007 - My Fiji Experience
Hey Everyone, I hope you are all having a fairly hassle-free holiday season so far. I've been quite busy myself doing absolutely nothing since I got back from Fiji. I'm currently trying to figure out where I'm going to be for Christmas and when I should go there. Considering it's only 11 days away, I should probably hurry up and make a decision. Aaaanyway, so as you can all imagine, there has been lots of "drama" in the past few weeks with me trying to get to and from Fiji. It's a long ridiculous story, but I'm going to tell all of you...Jump to full entry
Dec 4, 2007 - Fiji
We were not impressed at all with Fiji, there is more Fijian culture at the Polynesian Center in Hawaii as there was on the island. It was really expensive and the beach was unswimmable. The resort was really nice , but the people were not. And as it turns out there was a Tropical Cylcone looming around. We were not on the side of the island with the storm, just rain and a bit of wind. Met a nice man from Aussie there, who has family in Magrath. It dawned on me later I think I know their daughter.Jump to full entry
Dec 2, 2007 - Return to Nadi
We left Bounty Island and after another slightly hairy boat transfer, where we had to get our bags and ourselves from a small rocking boat onto the big ferry, we soon found ourselves back on the main island of Suva. From there it was a short bus journey back to our hostel/hotel and a quiet evening having some food and drinks in the restaurant. We were leaving Fiji the following day, but not immediately so we decided to lounge around by the pool for a while, watching the occasional mango drop into the water from the large, overhanging mango...Jump to full entry
Nov 24, 2007 - Nadi (Fiji)
It was only a three hour flight from New Zealand to Fiji, but on landing it was immediately obvious that I was somewhere very different. The humidity hit me as soon as I left the aircraft and on entering the terminal building there was a cheesy band singing local songs and wearing "traditional" clothes. I met up with Sian, my Aussie ex housemate from the UK who had agreed to come with me to Fiji, in the terminal building and it was great to see her again. We jumped on a free shuttle to our hotel/hostel, with porters carrying our bags (this...Jump to full entry

Day 43-Fiji Both Pat and I enjoyed the Rydges Hotel in Auckland. It was in a great location, the room was great and the service was outstanding. This morning we took advantage of the continental breakfast in the hotel café, and we were delighted with the selection and quality of items they had. We wished we could stay another day to really explore Auckland, but that will have to be another time. Navigator Pat found our way to the airport with ease and we dropped off that trusty white Corolla and then waited. Check out time was 10 am and our...Jump to full entry
Nov 15, 2007 - Smashing good times!!
FINALLY! A link to our Fijian photos: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2188994&l=a752b&id=3621938 BULA! So, after a day long jaunt in Fiji, we've made it to Auckland alive and well. The flight over was long and tiring, but we were able to catch some rest. We arrived in Fiji just as the sun was rising, which was absolutely beautiful. Fiji is definitely a place we'd like to come back to for a longer stay. It reminds Nerissa very much of the Philippines and served as a teaser to what's in store for us these next two months. We mainly...Jump to full entry
Nov 14, 2007 - Fiji
After flying from Christchurch to Auckland to get our connecting flight to Fiji six hours later we actually found out we could get the earlier one! So after sprinting around the airport we finally made it on our way to Fiji and arrived at a random hostel with us two and one other girl from Ireland. Had some dinner and went to a random Fijian club across the road for about five minutes and then went to bed where the mosies ate us to death.Jump to full entry
Nov 8, 2007 - Nadi, Fiji
We got up at 3 AM to start our day of going to Fiji. We left for the airport at 4:30 and we got on the plane at 7:30. We landed in Fiji at 9:30 (we gained an hour going east). We were met at the airport and taken on a tour of the city Nadi. We also went to a nearby village and took a walking tour. We then went to an orchid farm called Land of the Sleeping Giant. It was owned and setup by Raymond Burr. They had thousands of different kinds as well as all kinds of native and introduced plants. At the end of the walking tour of the orchids we...Jump to full entry
Nov 7, 2007 - Fiji
We finally made it!! The flight was actually quite enjoyable. I could get used to Business Class. Actually, right when we got into the lounge and I saw all the free food and drink, I mentioned that, and Laurie looked at me and said, "It looks like you already are used to it." We both chuckled. Right when we found on our seats on the flight to Fiji, David, our flight attendant, asked if we'd like any Champagne. I responded the only way possible: "That would be lovely, yes, thank you David." And the rest is history......HAHA. Anyway, so our...Jump to full entry
