Sep 7, 2004 - In Nadi

Michelle, Kellie and I all met up at LAX on Sunday night for our 11:30 pm Air Pacific flight to Nadi. I must say that the flight was really comfortable. I watched 'Shrek 2' and tried to start watching 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' before the red wine I had for dinner kicked in and I started nodding off. We arrived in Nadi at 5:10 am on Tuesday morning. You hop on a 10 and a half hour flight and all of a sudden it's two days later!! Anyway, we had to wait at the airport for a couple of hours before our transfer to our hostel...

Fiji 2004

Aug 28, 2004 - Bula Fiji!!

It's raining when we get into Nadi airport. We left Rarotonga at 23.59 Friday night. The flight lasts 3 and a half hours. We arrive at 2.30am, Sunday morning. Damn this international date line business. We haven't arranged accomodation. We're really tired. We decided before we left Rarotonga that we'd try to find somewhere to crash but if we couldn't we'd hang artound until day break then head for the beach. Luckily, the minute we're in baggage reclaim there's a huge board with all variety of accomodation and free phones to use. We call the...

Aug 7, 2004 - Sing songs, diving and mousey dogs in Fiji

On arrival in Fiji, I quickly changed my repetoire of moans from the 'I'm sooo freezin' variety to the 'Janey, I'm boilin' variety. We were greeted at the airport by a gang of singing Fijians. In fairness, they love their few songs and take every opportunity to hop out from behind a pillar or a bush with a banjo or a guitar and sing a welcome song, a farewell song, lunchtime song, going to the loo song and so on and so forth. I feel like my life has a soundtrack at last. In Nadi (pronounced Nandy) it becomes quickly apparent that I will not...

May 15, 2004 - Fiji - Stoney Creek Resort

I've spent the last 2 nights here at Stoney Creek Resort. It's a lovely little place - though I think they are being liberal with the word 'Resort'! The showers are cold water only and there are hundreds of frogs around - they keep hopping into my bedroom and into the shower with me!! There are 4 dorm rooms that all open out into a communal tiled area - and this is open to the elements so there are lots of bugs here - I've had to sleep under a mosquito net. There are very few guests here though so I've had a room with 2 bunks all to myself...

Tara's Travels

May 8, 2004 - Fiji

I've finally found internet that is relatively cheap so I can update you on my Fiji travels! We arrived in Nadi airport on Friday 7th May - as we walked off the plane and into the customs area there were 4 guys playing guitars to welcome us - it was a nice little welcome into the country. We stayed at the Nadi Bay hotel for the first night - it was a great place. Our room was big - 11 beds but most of them were single beds and we had air conditioning so it was very nice. We decided to have dinner in the restaurant as a bit of a treat - the...
