Jun 1, 2005 - 4 nights at Wayalailai

WAYA LAILAI YASAWA'S On the way of the boat when we were walking through the water I saw a small sized stingray. We stayed in little Bures like the other places. We met up with Kristian and Suzannah from Denmark who had been on David's and Coconut Bay with us. The first afternoon we played volleyball, so late that we arrived to dinner late. On the second day we climbed up some huge volcanic rocks behind our resort. Dad jumped off the edge, but he's fine, he only walked away with a broken leg - naaa not really, just jokes. There were heaps...

May 20, 2005 - Mana Island

This is again a slightly fabricated date, thing is that there was no internet on Mana so I cldn't do an update from there! Spent a night in Nadi when I arrived in Fiji (plane was delayed and didn't get in until midnight), however I got up in the morning and told the reception I wanted to go out to one of the islands, she told me I had to leave right away so was bundled into a taxi and taken to the beach where the boat left from! Then got boated out to Mana, about 45 mins off the coast (30 km I think someone said?). Was a wee small island, I...

May 20, 2005 - Back down to Nadi

We took the bus back down towards Nadi. Just before Nadi we got off the bus and then got a ride in the back of ute up to Stoney Creek, which is inland a bit. It's a cool place that looks like a spanish place. We had a cool little room that looks out towards the mountains. We stayed here last time and it was great, the only trouble this time was that the pool was a bit dirty. We stayed a couple of nights and then had another night at Club Fiji before we headed out to the Yasawa's.

May 15, 2005 - Fiji

The flight from Honolulu to Nadi was pretty unremarkable, except that my legs jumped all over the place and I didn't sleep much. Arrival in Nadi means a big long queue at immigration, whilst listening to the 'Bula Boys Banjo Band' Never has a welcome been so unwelcome. I'm getting impatient now; I want to see the missus, I'm hours late and I know she'll be panicking. Outside the airport, more waiting for the minibus to the hotel, but the driver has een 'Mrs Sam', and she was asking if I'd arrived! Hurrah! She's not in China! Bus pulls up at...

May 15, 2005 - Mana Island & `Mama`

We spent 2 nights on Mana Island which is located an hours boat ride from the mainland. It was raining when we arrived and to add to our misfortune we were greeted by a massisve Fijian woman called Mama who told us she would be our "Mama" for the duration of our stay on Mana Island - Great!! Mana as an island was beautiful and really picturesque, one afternoon we saw a couple posing for their wedding photos on North Beach. Fortunately for them, they were not staying with Mama in her grotty place but in the expensive lodge on the other side...

May 13, 2005 - Nadi, Fiji

We landed in Nadi and met up with Marie`s friend Siobhan who joined us for 10 days. Spent a couple of days in Nadi arranging to go to Mana Island and looking around the town. Not much going on apart from shopkeepers trying to sell a load of rubbish which they promised to give a `very, very good price for` if anyone is interested in `genuine Velsarce` downtown Nadi is the place to go...

May 9, 2005 - CLUB FIJI!!!!!

BULA!! Finally we are in Fiji. When we arrived in Fiji you could feel the instant heat. I counted three people with the same pink 'Supre' bag as ,e! They're a dead giveaway that you are from NZ. The first day we had a lazy day (like all the rest of the days in Fiji). except we went into town first & got a big watermelon and some stuff to eat like crackers etc... Then we worked on our sun tans and cooled of in the pool. The next day was more relaxing and just lazing around and splashing in the pool. In the afternoon we took three small sit...

May 8, 2005 - Castaway Island, Fiji

My mood leaving Australia was a black one (though the extent of this foul mood was unknown to me at the time). Leaving Australia in general and Sydney in particular was harder on me than I expected it to be. I've always wanted to come to Australia and had been planning this trip for so long that the beginning of the end was beginning to take it's toll.. I got my first glimpse of mood as reflected back to me by those in my company when I departed the bus I took from the airport to the marina where I was to catch the ferry to Castaway...

May 7, 2005 - Fiji

Arrived at Nadi airport at 6:30 pm (Air New Zealand flight) and took the shuttle bus to the nearby Nadi Bay Resort Hotel - one of Nadi's best budget places. Stayed there one night in a dorm (25 FJ$) and took off next morning to the Yasawa Islands Group (west of the main island Viti Levu) on the Yasawa Flyer. I stayed 2 nights on the Wanna Taki boat (79 FJ$ all in), that cruises the bays of Naviti. Great snorkeling in azure waters with beautiful coral reefs, kayaking and simply relaxing. 2 nights I spent at the new Manta Ray Resort (for 35...

May 6, 2005 - Nadi, Fiji!

Hello everyone! i'm now in fiji, after a helluva long flight. i spent my first few nights in Nadi, the town nearest the airport. It was horrible town, with loads of people harrassing you and trying to scam you. I got out of there and booked myself onto a boat off the mainladn and to on \e of the islands in the Yasawa group - an island callad Waya Lailai, and that was incredible, met some great people there who knew people from Emanuel - James Gibb and Charlie Meek. The island was paradise with white sand and crystal clear water. I was...

May 2, 2005 - Fiji and Home

Fiji - Our late evening arrival into Fiji brought no relief from heat and humidity. It is simply the way. We did have the luxury of air con the first night on the main island. The following day had us on a fast cat ferry headed out to Beachcomber island for 3 days of nothing but sun and sand. The island is one of the less expensive resorts with a large dorm sleeping 100 and several smaller huts. It was well staffed and very chill. A walk around the perimeter took no more than five minutes. The interior was nicely shaded and housed guests,...
